Traffic a bluesy band?  Not that there is a damn thing wrong with that.. but never really saw Traffic as that. The bands similarity IMO stops at the frontman, keyboard centric nature of the groups. Traffic was a very diverse group musically.. and jazz was at the heart of Traffic.

Just for the record, as much as I like Traffic, they have more of a connection to The Blues Brothers than to Robert Johnson.
I'm a soul man! LOL

Well.....Winwood certainly was playing blues and R&B in his early days but that doesn't make Traffic all that bluesy and they did embody many jazz aspects over the years. I suppose Argent was more proggy , whateever that means , though personally I always liked Traffic a bit better. As someone else mentioned above they managed to merge several syles of music into their unique sound.
Never really thought Argent nor Traffic were all that 'proggy' ;  I like the first 4 albums by both bands.....but Traffic always appealed more to me.

Well, that's my point Doc. I only see Winwood as very Rhythm and Blues based, but not Blues based per se.

He's great with Sam and Dave type material but Moody Waters' stuff is frankly over his head.

I also don't share a great love for Traffic and find them to be only marginally Electric Prog (as PA regards the group) in regards to the likes of Yes, Genesis et al.

Whoops! I better finish this thread now before I'm hit by lightning! LOL

Traffic.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.
