Topic: King Arthur: Rick Wakeman Posted: February 09 2015 at 10:54 |
Just as highly regarded as The Six Wives of Henry the Eighth, it is one of my Wakeman favs. What's your take on The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the knights of the Roundtable?

I have just listened to the reissue and its a romp of an album. It could easily have been cheesey (and some will argue it is) but the songs and playing are tight as a ducks proverbial behind. Not a wasted moment. Big and bold this is what Rick Wakeman was all about. Only Criminal Record and Six Wives challenge it but neither of those feels quite as complete to me.

^Thanks for the lowdown on the re-issue Richard. I'm looking forward to it now.

I really love this album, my favourite from him, and among my favourites in prog. It was also among the first full prog albums I heard (I was given a copy in tape from if by a friend in Highschool... some time later I got that one on CD, plus 6 Wives and Journey... I believe by then they still had those albums on the local CD shop I usually visit), and in a way it led me to Yes.

Another fine album with some AMAZING sections. Rick's minimoog never sounded better, - Merlin is just mind-blowing. Guinevere is a very pretty Prog-ballad. A micro-notch below JttCotE. No weak moments, all great pieces, even Lady Of The Lake.

I think it's good, but I prefer TSWOHTE, JTTCOTE and RWCR

Im not a huge fan of the album compared to Six Wives and Criminal Record, but I did catch the tour in a small hall in Cleveland. It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen in terms of performance and sound quality. Rick's playing was absolutely effortless, and he introduced each piece from Six Wives and Myths and Legends with charmingly naughty stories about the characters.
