Wow. Hold onto that baby! .... Some of the rarest Swede lps are: Blueset-Rock Machine and Radiomobel - tramsbox. I'm not sure which is the rarest I have. Maybe SAN MICHEALS on the California label with the cheap thin cover. this was pre-Kaipa. |

Speaking of copper covers: There is a German prog lp that is dead-rare.
It is doing my nut in trying to recall the band. Anyone? |

As I must have bemoaned on this forum a while ago - cos I bemoan it on all forums:
I once held in my hand one of the top twenty rare Italian prog lps . It was in the late 80s in a shop on Queen Street & Bathurst, Toronto. I had heard a bit tell of this band back then, but when I noted the word "saxophone" on the back cover , I put it back in the used bin. It was 8 bucks. I will never forget this. |

This Ramases album everyone mentions, Space Hymns, I bought for $20 years ago with the fold-out cover. The vinyl is on the 'Spaceships' variant of the Vertigo brand.
Got a few Ohr originals - Ash Ra Tempel, Tangerine Dream etc. Also a few Swedish things on the 'Silence' label - Samla Mammas Manna, Pekka Pohjola........ Even some 80's things on various private labels. I did get a Moving Gelatine Plates S/T album but the label is just the titles on a plain yellow label. Not CBS in the top left corner, just the 'M' in the same font as the title-artwork.... Stacks of French releases on Disjuncta and Urus (mainly Heldon and ZAO). I'm still really enjoying modern LP issues on Inside Out, Plane Groovy, Mellotronen etc. They will become quite scarce some day, for the next generation 'Holy Grail' LP's. |

All the same, that Moving Gelatine Plates you got is certainly a fine thing to have.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that there are cases where EARLY vinyl reissues can actually be rarer (less pressed) than the rarities. Its only that the origional was hyped - not the reissue. I, for instance, have a early reissue of the first (UK) Kaleidoscope. A major dealer in Canada was VERY interested in it. He had never encountered this particular reissue. .............. It is important to know that acetates or test pressings are the only true rarities. These cannot be argued. You have availability and then you have rarity. These are different things altogether.(This is something Masterman Ron Moore taught me.) Say a lp was pressed in only 500. That is rare. Ahhh...but is it? Say it was pressed in 500 in 1970, but a band member chocked away 300 of those and in '92 puts them into circulation for first time and floods the (lucrative high end) market with them. An example of not necessarily having to be a first press to be megarare:
PINK FLOYD - SAME (Toshiba, '71, Japan ) this collection of early Floyd was a promo. it is the rarest Floyd lp. At times sheer mystery helps. Untraceable bands. Games "Stargazer" is a big US prog rarity. |

Oftimes something amateurish-atrocious becomes sought after(moreorless) . Up there on the lofty Swedish rarities heights is the universally-condemned Malaria lp.
Released in only 50 copies and mainly to friends of the band. (The '91 reissue ,equally rare - 200 copies.) |

Then there arises the instance where the destruction factor comes into the rarity equation.
I am not speaking of marketting "destruction" where lps, due to tax scam reasons, were cut-cornered or brass-rivetted and put to cutout bins. Im talking deliberately withdrawn and immediately destroyed lps. (For instance, for a whiles there, Tomita's "Planets" because Holst's widow objected.) Warehouse fires, even whole lots destroyed or "misplaced" by customs officials and such. Then the very sad situation of bands themselves trashing their own: Solid Ground "Made In Rock" lp is acknowledged as Sweden's rarest rock lp. Trashed by the band who were vexed with the recording session. The Krautrock artist who, possibly a bit "touched" threw the whole lot into an icy river. |

@jacksiedanny. I understand that you are now on a PA watch list jacksiedanny and have even claimed to be the victim of trolling yourself. I can easily dispute who went trolling first by looking at your first PA post to me in the Psych lounge, but that's not the topic of this post. However, that was the point of my negative treatment toward you as you feel that you are smarter than other members and shriek at the idea that you could be treated the same in return. I used this distasteful means to get you hopped up and shake you out. I very much doubt that you have learned anything after 2 dismal attempts to reingratiate yourself, as you still return with a site name that starts off with a lowercase letter! For the third time, now. Simply amazing! I will start this clearly. I expect you to steer clear of any post of mine such as the Psych lounge and and keep you vitriol (trolling) to yourself. There are quite a few forums on this site that I do not bother with as I question their function, depressing discussion topics and even the members who attend these discussions. I expect the same from you. Simply put: If you had kept your nose out of places where it shouldn't be, you would have not been banned twice and find your situation you are in now. This will be my one and only correspondence to you. Don't blow it again.

Then those lps released only as promos.
You will be surprized to know the rarest Vertigo is not - like I think I said before - Dr Z, but one much-less savoury to us proggies: Jim Croce - "Life & Times" (around 50 copies, whereas most vertigos were 2000-5000) Lost lps: speaking of Vertigo: Dave Kelly - same (Mercury) Nirvana "Songs for love & praise" (went to Phillips) |
