These are guest appearances only by Mr. Fripp playing guitar or Frippertronics except for the Matching Mole album where he was the sole Producer. I'm not including collaborations like "No Pussyfooting" for example with Eno or the one with David Sylvian. I'm not including bands that aren't on the site either.
Any thoughts on Fripp in this role as a guest on some of these incredible records? I really don't care which album wins.

I like a lot of these albums, but Fear of Music is a special piece of music, especially I Zimbra on which Fripp plays.
Many of the other albums are good, especially Fear of a Blank Planet, but the song Fripp contributes to on that album isn't as great. |

All of the guitars on "I Zimbra" were fantastic; Fripp was just the icing on that cake. Has to be my choice.

Fripp has had a huge influence on the way the guitar is played and I remember the video on Youtube where he talks about his only meeting with Hendrix. It was early on in King Crimson's career and when playing live the record label really wanted him to play lead guitar standing up and putting on a show like most lead guitarists do. Well Fripp was doing that but had had enough, and this was the first gig where he sat on his stool by the drumkit and coincidently the most flamboyant guitarist on the planet was in the audience watching. Those near his table said he raved about Fripp and when the show was over he went backstage and when he shook Fripp's hand Hendrix said "I want to shake your hand with my left hand because it's closer to my heart". The man who played his guitar behind his back and with his teeth and would set it on fire was moved by this humble man sitting on a stool shunning the spotlight.

I picked Another Green World. Beautiful album, and Fripp turns in a great solo on (I think) St Elmo's Fire. Or was that Rob Lowe on sax...

Fripp played with Iona.. played what.. and for how much.. that is like having Nikki Sixx play with Celine Dion... it just doesn't compute. |

Pawn Hearts for me though his solo on Baby's On Fire from Eno's Warm Jets is probably my favorite solo by him.

I particularly like the way he sounds on Bowie's Heroes.

Melt. The only thing Fripp could have done to improve Pawn Hearts was to turn his amp to 11 and drown out Peter Hammill.

Yeah i'm not sure how he got hooked up with Iona but according to the liner notes he played guitar synths and frippertronics on "Prayer On The Mountain" from Beyond These Shores and the same on "Divine presence" and "The Search" from Journey Into The Mourn. Go figure. I was also shocked to see Nick Beggs playing Chapman Stick, Wal 5 String Fretted and Fretted Basses and Ashbury Bass throughout the Beyond These Shores album.

Tough call for me between PH, H to He, and Matching Mole.
I'll give it to H to He, as he didn't play on LLR.
