Topic: With A Little Help From Wyatt Posted: March 23 2015 at 16:14 |
Like the Fripp poll I picked 15 albums that Wyatt was involved with. Unlike the Fripp poll I included two live ones, the last two on the list. Feel free to mention any I missed and if there's one album listed here that you feel was your favourite Wyatt performance of the ones listed please vote for it.

Many masterpieces here, John, but the first Hatfield is one of my dearest albums.

Great album although Wyatt is featured on just one track doing vocals on Calyx. Still it's so cool he's on such a legendary record. Okay he's been on many of those.

I wish I liked it more but yes Wyatt went out on tour with the Cow to lend his vocals to several songs.

Lots of guests on this one with Wyatt adding vocals, cornet and percussion.

I went with John Greaves Songs where Wyatt sings lead on a few tracks, such a special record.

This is a difficult choice between Hatfield's debut and Concerts.
Concerts on the flip of a hat this time.

I was just noticing that most of the projects here that Wyatt guested on were led by some of his oldest and best friends. Phil Manzanera, Pink Floyd members, Soft Machine ex-members, Greves and Henry Cow etc. Not surprisingly I suppose. I would like to know how he got involved with that live Sugarcane Harris concert which was held over in Germany and included Terje Rypdal as part of that all-star band.

If I was told I could only pick one album from the list to listen to for the next few years it would be Hatfield And The North's debut which I do find rather difficult at times but man what an album. Like Greaves' Songs album I feel Michael Mantler's Hapless Child is really a special recording and although no one has mentioned Kevin Ayers two recordings I included here there is such a charm about them that I really feel fortunate to own them.

The glaring ommission on this list is the Canterbury-influenced 'United Kingdoms' by Ultramarine. Wyatt delivers two songs plus a tribute in 'Instant Kitten'. When I first saw Ultramarine live they were sampling Soft Machine's first album. Really surprised this is not on the list.
