Two double albums with 4 epic songs. Which one do you prefer?

Yes, good poll! These albums belong together. I gave it to Tales, because that album opened my eyes to the long-form rock composition. But I listen to Incantations just as joyfully. I discovered Constance Demby's "Sunborne" last year, which takes me to the same place Incantations does.

Tales by a considerable distance. Two sides (The Revealing Science of God and The Remembering) are excellent and some of the best music Yes ever made. Having really loved the first three Mike Oldfield albums, I found Incantations a big disappointment. It's a long time since I listened to it, but large parts seemed to be based around one unimaginative scale, the guitar work was less stellar and there were far fewer interesting musical ideas than on albums such as Tubular Bells and Ommadawn. He was having exegesis treatment at the time he made Incantations and this apparently improved his mental state (cut his hair, became less depressed and more extroverted) but it also seemed to cure him of some of his talent and creativity!

IMHO both these albums contain about 40 minutes of great music...and then there's more.

Despite the hate it gets, TFTO will always be one of my favourite albums of all time.

Two masterpieces, but Tales wins - it has a more organic quality while Incantations is a bit programmatic.

I love both, but Incantations is one of the Oldfield's albums which I prefer.

Two classic albums IMHO
Gave the nod to TFTO just because the opening song is one of the greats of prog!

i'm going with Tales, but doesn't Incantations have ONE FULL SONG instead of four separate ones?

Tales wins for me, but barely. I must say---no, I must scream loudly that their most underrated album is "Tormato". I love that album immensely.

Oh well, now I don't know which one I like better. I like more music on Incantations, and the last minutes are really magical. But The Revealing Science of God might be enough to tip the scale for Tales. No, I still think there's more to enjoy on Incantations. I love the whole first and fourth parts, and I enjoy most of the second one, even if the final vocal segment is somewhat overlong and flat compared to the final section on part 4. The third part is the one I enjoy the least.
