I just started getting into this guy. He seems so interesting so i'm not sure why it's taken me so long.
I bought Hunky Dory as my first album about 1 week ago and love some of the songs off of it. He's such a cultural chameleon.. What are PA's thoughts on David Bowie? Favorite album?

Ziggy Stardust (simply one of the best rock albums ever released. Ever.) Diamond Dogs (a sentimental favorite, and the 1st Bowie album I owned) Aladdin Sane Hunky Dory Love these. The rest are hit and miss.

My favourite Bowie albums rank pretty much equally so it's difficult to choose.
What doesn't surprise me is that these albums are (tenuously) linked by a common theme, then that particular theme actually began on his début album and has cropped up on several of his albums. Favourite track: Width Of A Circle My kid sister was a big fan in the early 70s and she bought all his albums before I did. This was the first album of her's that I listened to that really stood-out because of its down right heaviness. It's also quite an odd album in my opinion as all the tracks seem longer than they actually are. 2nd: Diamond Dogs. Favourite track: Sweet Thing/Candidate. This album was Bowie's return to the hard rock of MWSTW and picked up on some of the dystopian ideas of that album to form a loose Orwellian concept. 3rd: Station To Station. Favourite track: Station To Station. The album that preceded this (Young Americans) I really cannot abide apart from its one saving grace and that's Carlos Aloma's guitar riff on Fame. But the diluting of the blue-eyed soul of that album with rock and the first introduction of Krautrock as a direct influence created something of a curiosity album that confounds and confuses as it jumps around different musical styles and vocal styles but rather oddly works. 4th: David Bowie (i.e., his 2nd album - aka "Space Oddity") Favourite track: Cygnet Committee This would have been top if it contained more songs Prog songs like Cygnet Committee and Wild Eyed Boy From Free Cloud, but it doesn't so it isn't. I'm another really, really big fan of The Man Who Sold The World, also gotta love:
Hunky Dory Ziggy Stardust Young Americans Station To Station Low "Heroes" Scary Monsters and Super Creeps Let's Dance Outside Outside is very interesting, being Bowie's take on industrial. Specifically, industrial as derived from The Young Gods, who play post-industrial leaning industrial rock with big inspiration from '80's era Swans.

I have many favorite albums before the 80's, but this is my ultimate favorite song, Horizons. I dedicate this now to you big hug The Rise and
Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars in 1972.

He's cool, at least where his 1967 - 1972 material is concerned. I need to get more of his stuff.

the only actual albums i heard are Ziggy Stardust and The Next Day; otherwise it's just compilation albums (with fantastic songs on it, Life on Mars?, The Jean Genie, "Heroes" (despite only being the SINGLE VERSION, grrrrr), and Ashes to Ashes are only just a few examples. forgot to mention that i also heard some of Low because...experiments.

I never paid much attention to Bowie. I had a copy of Heroes on cassette. Outside was where I really took an interest in exploring. I have added stuff before that but don't find much before Heroes all that interesting.
