Topic: Native Construct for Prog Metal Posted: May 01 2015 at 19:11 |
I searched as far back as I could and I see little almost no mention of this group, so I am putting them up for suggestion. NATIVE CONSTRUCT. They are a heavy prog/prog metal group from Boston, Mass. and I believe they belong in the archives. They have one album that came out in April entitled Quite World and it is really good, quite a barn burner I feel. There are many progressive elements at work such as lengthy and complex arrangements with various styles, time signatures and rhythm styles at featured. There is prog metal, symphonic prog, neo prog, hints of prog folk and dare I say an almost baroque feel to it at times. My description might not be spot on, but I would say it is a pretty progressive debut from this group.
The group is a trio featuring Robert Edens: Vocals, Myles Yang: Guitar and Max Harchik: Bass. I'm not sure who played the drums and other instruments as the bio page on the website doesn't seem to state that. The album is out on Metal Blade Records, but they are anything but a standard metal act. The debut is one of my favorites this year and it has been a great year for prog releases already! Metal Blades Records band site: http://www.metalblade.com/nativeconstruct/ Bandcamp site: http://nativeconstruct.bandcamp.com/ Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/NativeConstruct My apologies if this group has already been suggested in the past. Hey, I was just going to make this suggestion!
Not totally unique; reminds me of Haken in many places. Still good and definitely needs to be here. And I'm sure it will be soon. |

Pardon the super slow response here, but what does "on charts" mean?

Well - it doesn't mean that Native Construct are about to hit the big time on the Billboard Hot 100, that's for sure...!! It actually means that the band have been added to the chart on a site called progfreak.com that the Prog Metal team will be using to keep tabs on their evaluation of them. You can follow the evaluation here: http://progfreak.com/Native-Construct-163156.html?path=pa/recent, and will be pleased to know that there are two 'yes' votes in the chart already, and thinks are looking good for them (there are three more members of the team still to vote, however).

HA! Yeah, sadly they'll never see mass appeal, but they are quite good. The people at Billboard night not even know what to make of this music. I'm not even sure if prog metal is the correct category for them, maybe heavy prog perhaps.
Thanks for the clarification and the info.
