Hi! I am currently in the process of discovering a lot of prog at once, and I'm still pretty new to the genre. My interest currently lies in the post 2000s era of prog, but I've still listened to some of the classics from the 70s.
I am very interested in discovering some new prog where the main focus are the keyboards. I am aware of artists like Neal Morse, The Tangent, and Glass Hammer, which I really enjoy. I would very much appreciate some pointers to other bands and artists in this vein! |

I don't know if IQ would be 'keyboard oriented' but they are prominent enough that you may like. I've only heard their latest, The Road of Bones.

More heavy prog, please!

If you have no objections to vocals in languages other than English (some people do), I'd recommend Italian band Il Tempio delle Clessidre, whose keyboardist and main composer is a lovely, classically-trained young lady by the name of Elisa Montaldo. Here's a link to their website, which is also in English: http://www.iltempiodelleclessidre.com/

IQ has some great keyboard-work. I also have only heard the latest album, and I love it.
Thank you Raff! I will check it out. I haven't listened that much to vocals in other languages, so this could be interesting. I guess I should also specify that I especially love moog synthesizers. I would definitely like to discover more prog with prominent moog synths. |

KEITH EMERSON BAND This Italian band is also influenced by ELP, good symph with a lot of piano and Moog solos Erik Norlander from The Rocket Scientists also uses a modular Moog but I'm not familiar with their output, I believe they are rather accessible Prog a bit like Asia.

Thank you very much! I will check all of this out.
By the way, in "Welcome To The Machine" by Pink Floyd, is that a moog solo around 2:50? I'm asking just to make certain I know what a moog sounds like. Some people have said that's a moog synth, so I thought here would be the perfect place to get that confirmed. |

That is a MiniMoog on that song. Some of the non-musical sound fx parts are done on the VCS3 synth. |

Great that Rocket Scientists were remembered! Slightly in the AOR vein, but accessible, stimulating and with lots of keyboards, at least in their first album.

Renaissance is a band with a great keyboardist who figures largely in the songs and arrangements. They are a symphonic prog band with a sweeping aesthetic that be just the thing you're looking for. I recommend Ashes Are Burning.

This one's really cool too.
I think Hiromi Uehara is great, especially great if you like jazz or piano-led rock and roll. Another band you may be interested for jazzrock fusion with heavy piano work is The Bad Plus. They have an awesome album called Prog that is all about the trio doing, well, prog. |
