a fairly new band - actually they've existed for six or seven years, but are really burgeoning recently
Brussels-based, the brainchild of the guitarist Nathan, the band is a "classic prog quartet" with a semi-operatic female singer, but tend to lean often towards fusion in concert... but it's difficult for le to "genrify" so far, they've only got one EP available; though it's actually their second EP, but the previous had a fairly different line-up (only the KB and guitar player remain) https://www.facebook.com/theabelians?ref=br_rs&pnref=lhc YT: Soundclouds: https://soundcloud.com/the-abelians/01-hidden-rainbows/s-PKxRh https://soundcloud.com/the-abelians/02-evil-talk/s-pQWZV https://soundcloud.com/the-abelians/03-two-shadows/s-vkxMt their EP is distributed via Musea http://www.musearecords.com/ext_re_new_catselect.php?np=40613 Edited by Sean Trane - May 10 2015 at 03:22 |

Enjoying this band a lot...those last two Youtube clips seem a bit blank at the moment though. But here's two more that were uploaded by the same guy who gave us the 'Evil Talk' video in the original post.
They describe their genre on facebook as "Something between baroque music and psychedelic rock". That 'Evil Talk' vid was actually giving me a bit of a Focus vibe until the vocals cut in...now if you replace these with a bit of Thijs Van Leer yodelling, I'd never have guesed it wasn't Focus. The short instrumental interlude at the four minute mark sounds so similar to a section from 'Eruption'. As far as evaluating them on here goes, the music certainly has a symphonic edge to it to these ears...and we have Focus in Symphonic...so I'd probably ask Iván's men to hear it out as a first port of call.

mmmmhhh!!!... difficult to set a genre, but symphonic could fit mainly on the account of Rita
But I'd say that they'd fit easily in "ecclectic" prog as well. |

Thanks Nathan, and welcome to the site . For anyone interested, here is a very positive review of the EP in French: http://neoprog.eu/critique/the_abelians/the_abelians (it translates fairly well using google). This music certainly belongs on the site, that's for sure...my only slight concern might be that at under 20 minutes in total for the three tracks that make up the EP, the evaluation teams might not consider this to be enough just at the moment. Are there any plans for a full length album - or maybe another EP - at any time in the near future?

They have enough material for a full concert, that's for sure.
So Nathan told me that they're looking to record the rest of their stuff for a full album. Surely it won't be too long. BTW, they 3/4 filled the Jacques Frank Cultural centre, when Univers Zero manages only 1/3 |

Lol! I was kinda wondering how they managed to pull off an EP release concert with just 18 minutes or so of music... The tubes of the live performances of the three EP tracks from the April 29th gig are certainly very impressive - if the other material they have in their repertoire is anything like this, then that full length album will be one Hell of a CD when it finally sees the light of day!

Has a verdict been reached (about the genre, that is)??
If so, I can worry about creating the banfd's entry page!! |

Nothing has happened out here in public, Hugues - the topic title doesn't include a suggested sub genre - and only you, I and Nathan have added anything to the thread, so unless you have been talking to other collabs about this down in the secret den that they call the cz, then the answer is probably 'no'.
