Days ago I found it worthy to trace down the composer of a song featured in a documentary. It turned out to be a one-man electronic show from Lithuania called Stellardrone. Some tracks:

I've downloaded all the tracks and it's better than many Tangerine Dream's albums. This guy deserves to be known.

Even though it is far easier to do music like this today, I agree that from a spacey perspective these albums are in general at par with the best of Tangerine Dream. The latest one is particularly travelling and addictive. |

I've now made it back to the very first LP (pity there ain't more). It is absolutely mind blowing, this guy is one of the most progressive musicians out there.

Toatally agree! . STELLARDRONE- should be in! His "On a Beam of Light" proves to be top of the line prog/electronic material.

Here is a first try for a bio. I'll try to complete it.
Stellardrone is the pseudonym of amateur composer Edgaras Žakevičius, born in 1987 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Edgaras started creating music in 2007, using only computer software (Reason, Ableton, Audacity) and virtual synthesisers. He is mostly interested in ambient, electronic and space music, listing as inspirations Kelly Bailey (computer game composer), Aaron Marshall (emerging film composer), Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Altus, Vangelis and Aphex Twin's ambient works. Between 2009 and 2013 Stellardrone released five LPs and one EP, all very involving works of great introspection, largely supported by gentle sequencer loops. All Stellardrone albums have been released for free and the free sharing of digital copies is encouraged. For this reason Stellardrone's music features often in low budget or amateur pictures and documentaries. There is also a new "official" logo:

I have managed to exchange a few e-mails with Edgaras Žakevičius. Apparently, he has had very little influence from the Prog world - if at all. This makes his music all the more fascinating.
Here is an excerpt from an interview: “From a young age I had very little interest in human affairs. I think I saw the world as something bigger than what happened only in plain sight. Of course I probably didn't consciously realize it then, but I was always interested in new ideas and questioning the present ones – in constructing things and trying to understand how we came to be." You might find in there some bits worth adding to the artist bio. Cheers. |
