Jumbo (although I prefer their next one) but that's also a hell of a good National Health album.

Correction - I mean I prefer the previous one, not the next.

Good friends, my readers, who peruse this book,
Be not offended, whilst on it you look:
Denude yourselves of all deprav'd affection,
For it contains no badness nor infection,
'Tis true that it brings forth to you no birth
Of any value, but in point of mirth;
Thinking therefore how sorrow might your mind
Consume, I could no apter subject find;
  One inch of joy surmounts of grief a span;
  Because to laugh is proper to the man

- François Rabelais.
- From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

  Obras de Violeta Parra, that's lovely. Lay down misere.

Octopus.

"The Boys in The Band" is one of my favorite GG tracks of all time.

National Health, one of my top three Canterbury albums, big fan of GG and particularly Octopus, but that NH album is just a masterpiece (& it has .... you know)

Holding my vote, wanting to give Jumbo and Jaivas a chance.
Preferring National Health over GG - I can already say that, though Octopus is a great album. But Of Queues And Cures is one of my top fave prog albums.

I could really see you loving Los Jaivas Marcel and I didn't even pick their (consensus for most people) definitive/best album. I allowed myself some slack for putting all time this contest did.. and picked some albums I wanted to see spotlighted.  I adore this album, as much as one my absolute favorite Italian albums and damnit. .that is saying something. LOL

Yes, they are good, Los Jaivas. All the bands in the poll are good. Strong composition.
Voting for National Health, one of my favorite bands.

A vote for my fellow Italians of Jumbo, and for an album who debunks the myth of prog only being concerned with elves, gnomes and such. In particular, the lyrics to "Specchio", the song chosen as a sample (and also the album's opener) are a punch in the gut. I might even try my hand at a translation one of these days.

I listened to Specchio today while going to Padua.

I just thought the same: Raffaella should do a translation

Gentle Giant, Octopus.

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

Clap though Raff always says, whenever I play the album, that the album depresses the hell out of her.

I do like my wife happy and peppy.. best leave that translation for someone else to do LOL

^^^

Yes, I know what you mean: the flipside is really tough (Gil, Vangelo, 40 Gradi... not exactly my cup of tea).

I think the album is really memorable only for its first side (for the one-two punch of "Specchio" and "Come Vorrei Essere Uguale a Te").
