Too Old To Rock and Roll; Too Young to Die. Is it really the train wreck that it's made out to be? I thought it was better than War Child. What do you think?

No. In my opinion, TOTRAR was Jethro Tull's worst album. It's really weak. The only good tracks are the title track, Quizz Kid, and Pied Piper. Meanwhile, War Child is one of there best albums.

ehh has a few good songs, would never listen to it again all the way through. What makes War Child better is one of my favorite Tull songs, Skating Away and of course the decent, over played, Bungle in the Jungle.

I think that its a weak album also. But the concept is fun (could be a Terry Giliam movie, if you stop to think) AND John Glascock backing vocals are AWESOME.

It's about a 6/10 I reckon. Best tracks for me are "Crazed Institution", "Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die" and "The Chequered Flag (Dead or Alive)"

A real dreck, IMHO.

I know there is a second-degree humour, but I don't get it and don't find it funny (or the gatefold artwork, FTM), but the songwriting is also boring. Their weakest album up to date (though APP is on the same echelon, but for different reasons), and will remain so until the A/TB&TB/UW trilogy will appear a few years later.

My favourite album by Jethro Tull, following by Songs from the Wood  and A Passion Play.

Salamander, chequered flag and pied piper could easily fit on another 70s tull album. They are pretty good. My fave song is Strip cartoon though. I really want to hear Advertising man and Commercial traveller. Could be 2 more gems on the new remix plus other previously unreleased songs. The only weak songs are Too old and Bad eyed. Big Dipper, quiz kid, crazed institution aren't too bad though. Taxi grab and deadbeat are ok too. When this remix is released with a few extra gems it may be on par with Songs from the wood. Minstrel will sit dead last from the 70s remixes
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Yeah. Would love to hear an alternate album of real tull tracks without a soundtrack in mind

Good album, I think the first side is better than the second, I also much prefer this one to War Child but of course not on par with earlier or later 70's albums.
It also contains one of my favourite JT moments ever in From A Dead Beat To An Old Greaser, Love that moment when the drums and sax comes in, gorgeous!

Too Old ushers in the return to a more pastoral, folksy sound....SftW and HH follow in the same vein and all three are, to me, their best since the first two albums.

In my opinion, the only poor album of Tull's in the '70s.

Taxi Grab is the only stand out track IMHO.

The other tracks try hard to "get there" but all of them fall short (in my opinion).

2.5 stars at best.

I dont own this one. The title song is very enjoyable in Bursting Out, but I can easily live without the whole album. I remember seing TV show based to this album and that (if I remember right) was quite a good show.
