Crime of the Century (1974) - Supertramp
I like The Wake but it's got no chance up against CotC

IQ, The Wake.

I agree with you that Supertramp in general is overrated, but I also chose them over the Wake.....but had the OP listed Dark Matter or Frequency ...or Road Of Bones it would have been a different vote.

I like The Wake (courtesy of some 80s era video and that crazy 80's hair) but hard to top Supertramp.

More heavy prog, please!

Can't abide The Wake, COTC was one of the most played albums of my youth though it hardly gets played now, it gets the vote just to kill off IQ

I like em both equally. The Wake is imo the best album IQ ever did. Love the angsty post-punk feel there is to it. Ahh to hell with it. IQ it is.

personal tastes I suppose I don't think it was anywhere close to their best album myself and compared to harder core prog bands.. if judging the music on that basis as we on a site like this.. nah. Not in the same league, creatively or musically. Great song writers though.. but again.. they wouldn't peak in that department for another 5 years.

IQ is my favourite neoprog band, and The Wake gets my vote though it's not their best album.

When I rejoined this madhouse not so long ago I thought at first that Mickey's hard line on Neo was more than a tadge harsh. IQ makes me question that. Maybe it would grow on me given time but my first reaction to it is nowt but a ho hum.
Now I know Crime is blatantly commercial but damn it all, like Dean, from the first moment the needle touched vinyl I was sucked right in and have never really seen fit to change my stance. For me, not so much prog but near perfect pop albeit with a progish nod and a wink. At the time was there anything like it ? It still has that "here comes the goofy grin" quality. shame they couldn't sustain it.
Marching right on through to the next round as well. Looks like crime really does pay.
