no idea; I listened to prog all my life, and I mean all my life. I was
born Dec 68 near SF (Oakland). my parents were hippies; they listened
to a lot of weird stuff, especially Krautrock, but a lot of other prog
too

I think it was either 2112 or Heart of the Sunrise (the intro).

I grew up with prog, as I was born in the early '60s. However, I can't remember which was the very first prog song I heard. I remember listening to Banco, PFM and Le Orme on the radio around '72 (I'm from Italy). A few years later, the albums of the prog greats were the soundtrack of parties and informal meetings with my group of friends: I distinctly remember dancing (!) to DSOTM and borrowing ITCOTCK from a friend of mine when I was about 15 years old.

with a non-conscious mind (I was 12) it was The battle of epping forest, with a conscious mind (I was 19) it probably was 21st century schizoid man...do you think anybody cares, by the way?

using a relatively strict interpretation of prog, it'd have to be 21st century schizoid man.

I don't know what I first heard, but the first song I remember is
"Carpet Crawlers". I must have been 5 or 6 when I first heard it and
loved it.

Some Rush song, most likely Tom Sawyer, or something else off of either Moving Pictures, A Farewell To Kings or 2112.
