Topic: Genesis-Supper's Ready Not Included! Posted: August 26 2015 at 05:24 |
Genesis are undoubtedly one of the top prog bands, and have many great tracks amongst there repertoire. The most popular of these must be the epic Supper's Ready. If i did a "best Genesis song poll"including SR then I'm sure that song would top the poll. Therefore SR isn't included in this list,as are some of the more obvious tracks eg The Cinema Show,Home By the sea,The Musical Box,In the Cage,Down and Out,Firth of Fifth etc.I know there are many fans that appreciate Gabriel or Collins only,or both equally,so I've tried to pick both era's in the poll. Equally difficult is trying to pick just ONE from the list, but let's see if this is possible.Sorry if your favourite is not included, but the songs are random.I tried to pick at least one track from there fourteen studio albums, including CAS From Genesis to Revelation is not included as I believe this music, though still good, doesn't best represent how Genesis would sound in the future. PICK YOUR FAVOURITE TRACK ONLY!

To pick just ONE out of these is futile. What a ludicrous poll Salmacis, I suppose........... - for today.........

Nice poll. A coctkail of superb songs from which I can pick one almost randomly combined with some others that I would put neither in a best nor in a worst poll.
From the pool of superbs I pick The Colony of Slippermen today. Others in this league are: 11th Earl of Mar, Watcher of the Skies, The Fountain of Salmacis, Dodo/Lurker, The Battle of Epping Forest, I Know What I Like and Afterglow.

Can-Utility and the Coastliners, which is certainly better than most of the songs on the list.

A fine selection.
I'll go with Chamber of 32 Doors. It's my favourite vocal performance from PG.

I voted for the Battle of Epping Forest because, well, you ain't seen nothing like it ... (and it's) right outside your door. Chamber of 32 Doors, Watcher, Fountain and many others would have fit the bill as well, but I went the Battle because it rarely gets the love it deserves.

crazy to pick one but Lamia---I love the ebb and flow of it and the climatic Hackett solo

The Battle of Epping Forest. I do agree with Progmatic that the song always gets hated on for reasons I can't even understand. It's the only song in the Genesis repertoire that can come close to SR.

Fountain of Salmacis, out of this list, which include many other good tracks. Too Bad Dancing with the Moonlit Knight is not here, nor is Firth of Fifth, wich are much better than Tonight, Tonight, Tonight and others.

I love the song and don;t get the hate---it really is an epic--maybe some don't like the funny lyrics being stuffy stuck up prog fans

I wouldn't say I hate it, but to me it sounds a little messy, disjointed and erratic. That said, I've not listened to it for years, so I'll give it another go and see if my perspective has changed.

Very tough choice! Genesis were really great and it's quite sad how they've been ignored (Not on this forum!) by the mainstream media recently. Anyway, out of sentiment I voted for "Dodo/Lurker". Mainly because I remember a job interview I had back in 1999 and when the interviewer was explaining the job to me, all I could hear in my head was the keyboard riff in "Lurker"! Did-Der-Dur-Der-Der. Duddle-Er-Did-Dur etc!

I was between Can Utility and Fountain, but the organ intro in Fountain still gives me goosebumps.
Fountain it is.
