Signals for me.

From the good ol' days it would definitely have to be Permanent Waves ahead of Moving Pictures.  Those two albums are pretty much perfect in my opinion and easily preferable to the earlier ones, imho.  This represents a truly stellar peak for the band.

However......... I have a very distinct liking for Snakes and Arrows Shocked.  A recent release that seems to have garnered very little affection from the prog cognosenti, much to my surprise and dismay.  I just think this is an outstanding collection of very high quality pieces and easily their best album since the aforementioned Moving Pictures.  I find hardly a weak link on Snakes and Arrows (the live DVD of the same name is awesome too Smile).  I am even tempted to vote for it seen as nobody else has.  We'll see.......

I'd give Geddy Lee's bass the handjob it deserved if given half the chance.

Permanent Waves on the whole. I enjoy the whole thing, whereas usually there's a track or two on every other Rush album I'm not fond of. Entire discography is strong throughout really however.

I would say they were largely a young persons band, still true for their early stuff: If you aren't a fan by the time you're about 21, you probably never will be, and the band somehow made progrock exciting and immediate rather than some English guys and their turgid rock symphonies.

God I love that description....you made my day!! LOL

So do I. I became a fan at the age of 21, just before Moving Pictures was released .

Probably '75 for me, I was 11 when I heard Fly By Night, 2112 really hooked me and both A Passage To Bangkok and Something For Nothing got huge plays.

Learned to appreciate Rush with Hold Your Fire... (i'm a late bloomer at an old age)...

But I've grown to turn into a Rush zombie listening to Hemispheres.  Hemispheres is EPIC!
