Topic: Anyone knows where this awesome solo is from? Posted: September 24 2015 at 09:07
I found a super awesome solo from rick wakeman on YT lately, and I want to know from which album it is from. Not only virtuosic playing but also pretty avant-garde at certain points to my ears.

For some reason it reminds me a bit of his Retro projects from 2006, but without the year it's hard to tell.
I believe that's from the late '80s/early '90s. Might even be from the Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe tour. Rick played knockout solos on both that tour and the Union tour, except on the latter it was almost entirely on synth.

Okay, I watched the clip: I'm certain it's the ABWH tour (which I was fortunate to see on their L.A. stop, and it was awesome). The mid-solo switch to the Ensoniq VFX and Roland D-50 confirms it.

If anyone's curious, the three excerpts are: Gone but Not Forgotten from Cost of Living (1983), Catherine Parr from The Six Wives of Henry VIII (1973) and Merlin the Magician from The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (1975).
