Here's another from Mars Chronicles.  It's a drum playthrough, but I really love this track:

Another Aussie find I've come across is Plini.

His latest track is impressive and really grows on you. Full album out Aug 26th.

God damn!!! The Mars Chronicles are crazy good! Young Cardinals are great too, lately I've been getting into more atmospheric stuff so they're a great find.

Just a quick update on some stuff I've found in the past few months:

Please keep the suggestions coming. It's nice to see this post and find new bands.

Funny seeing someone mention "The Earth and Everything in it."  I went to college in the town where the main dude of the band lived!

Wow! I stepped away from this thread for a bit and some serious heavy hitter suggestions came in. Lion Shepherd, Teramaze, Sleep Parade (already knew about them, but gave them a chance and they stuck), and The Occupants. All great stuff.

Some bands I have found this past year that you all may be interested in are:

O'Brother (Kinda post/rock with more approachable sound): http://obrother.bandcamp.com/album/endless-light
Stare at the Clouds (alternative/prog metal): http://stareattheclouds.bandcamp.com/album/this-clear-divide

Quiet Child (a bit like Porcupine Tree): http://quietchild1.bandcamp.com/album/the-ever-present-shadow

The Earth and Everything in it: (what I like to call Coldplay alt rock/metal) http://theearthandeverythinginit.bandcamp.com/album/celebrations

Vulkan (kinda like Karnivool, but of course not as good. Listen to consequences of ignorance): http://vulkanband.bandcamp.com/album/observants

Four Stroke Barren (similar to Vola): http://fourstrokebaron.bandcamp.com/album/king-radio

Glass Kites (softer prog rock): http://glasskites.bandcamp.com/album/glass-kites

Keoma (a bit of power metal with alt metal): http://keoma.bandcamp.com/album/synthesis

Raptor (a bit generic, but catchy none the less): http://raptormusicnl.bandcamp.com/album/raptor

Please keep the suggestions coming in, i want this to be a brain trust of great similar music.

Man, I have a ton more stuff to listen to now.  Thanks for all the suggestions!

Wow, I haven't heard from Falling Up in quite a while.  Their "Dawn Escapes" album is pretty solid, and that came out in 2005.  They've changed a lot over the years.  After "Fangs", they kind of lost me, so maybe I'll give the new stuff a shot.

The Ocean is pretty wild, too.  I got into them a few years ago.  Their current singer made them a lot better.

I haven't heard any of the other discoveries, so I'm stoked to check them out.

These have been my most recent finds:

Dream The Electric Sleep is one that's been on my radar for a bit, but their new album is reeling me in:

Khoma is a very recent discovery, but it's solid post rock.  Same label as Minora.

Speaking of Minora, they have a new single out, and it's solid.

Benthic is the singer from Eden Circus, doing some heavier material.

Poem has a bit of a Tool vibe, but I don't think it's straying too far from the path of this thread.

I have a few more, but I think this post is long enough.  Hope you like them, and please keep the suggestions coming!

Here is another Aussie band you may not have heard of before & not mentioned here. Like Thieves, from Brisbane, the singer is ex. The Butterfly Effect (one of Australia's better modern prog bands but broke up a few years ago).

Nice! Great suggestions. I'm seeing Plini with Animals as Leaders and Intervals in San Francisco in a few months. Why not see a musical genius during your lifetime? I'm definitely buying Benthic, Minora and Poem. Also, I didn't know Dream the Electric Sleep came out with another album, so pretty stoked about that. Jolly, The Ocean, Deadly Circus Fire, and Like Thieves have all gotten regular ear lovin time. All solid bands. When I have a collection of worthy finds again I'll post them here. Thanks again for the recs!

Great find, man.  I heard these guys a while ago, and forgot about them.  I appreciate the reminder.  This band is solid.

The Butterfly Effect's "Imago" is my favorite "posthumous" find this year.  Anything connected to this band, whether style-wise or member-wise, is something I'm interested in.

It's been a pretty good music discovery run for the past month or so for me.  I don't want to get too far off track with this thread, so I'll narrow it down to what I feel fits here.  I know how overwhelming it can be to see a laundry list of new bands to listen to, anyway.

Here's one of Basick Records' new artists, Foes.  Basick Records is more known for Djent metal, but there are a few bands on this label aside from the aforementioned that suit this thread (see also Skyharbor, Circles, Intervals "A Voice Within")

Hard to pick a track, since this album is only 10 days old, but this one is an early favorite:

One other find I'll share:

This band Face the Maybe really took me by surprise.  It's heavy, with some amazing guitar work:

Enjoy!

Nice. Got a few FOES albums. The singer for Face the Maybe sounds a bit like the original Evans Blue singer (a great band). Here's what I've discovered lately

A Dog Called Ego (Post-Rock. A bit like FOES): https://adogcalledego.bandcamp.com/album/songs-for-elevators

Khemmis (Progressive Stoner Rock): http://listen.20buckspin.com/album/hunted-2

Echolapse (Progressive Djent clean voacals): https://coretothecore.bandcamp.com/album/deadlights

Defy the Ocean (Post-Rock / Alt-metal): http://music.defytheocean.com/album/elderflower

Watercolour Ghosts (Post-Rock / Alt-Metal): https://watercolourghosts.bandcamp.com/album/watercolour-ghosts

Car Bomb (Brutal Metal with interesting signatures): https://carbomb.bandcamp.com/album/meta

Sorry I keep linking bandcamp, but it's the only music discovery site that allows a lot of freedom in searching for similar music that I've found (tried spotify, last.fm, and a few others but they don't get the job done).

I'm with you Tom Ozric. The album was amazing. If they ever tour the US I'll be the first in line for a ticket.

Caligula's Horse is from my neck of the woods and I thought they were going to be the local opening act for Katatonia who I'll be seeing here in Brisbane next week.

Not to be, the opening act is another local band that you might be interested in, Kodiak Empire (given the topic of this thread) https://kodiakempire.bandcamp.com/

Bands called Qlaye Face. They're touring with Caligula's Horse currently

Qlaye Face is a great find.  These guys are right up my alley.

I'm 4 songs into A Dog Called Ego, and I'm feeling that so far, as well.

Agreed that Evans Blue is solid.  I liked the first two albums with the new singer, as well.  I've only heard snippets of the new album they put out this year, and it didn't seem promising.  I'll give it a full listen today.

I just discovered Foes previous album, Antecedence, and I think I like it better than the new one.

I'll be checking out the other recommendations this week.

Here are my recent finds:

These guys have been around for a few years, though I just discovered them recently.  It's kind of an odd mix of styles, but it's catchy.  They're on the same label as Black Peaks, which has been referenced on this thread before:

Basick Records is on a roll with finding post-metal stuff.  Here are two new ones from them:

One last thing - I know this is off topic, but I've really been getting into more chill stuff that finds itself on the prog side, yet still has an edge to it.  Stuff like Charlie Barnes "More Stately Mansions", Crippled Black Phoenix "Bronze", or Tesseract "Errai".  Any recommendations?
