In the opinion of a significant minority, Renaissance peaked in 1978 with their at times bombastic at times folkie "A Song for All Seasons".  Even among the majority, the prevailing view is that it was a very good album not quite up to the standards set a few years earlier.  In recent polls, Renaissance steamrolled the Yes and the ELP entry from 1978, and narrowly defeated Gentle Giant's and Genesis' 1978 albums, before falling 27-16 to"Heavy Horses" by Jethro Tull.  I've decided to include Camel in the "big guys" category since they tend to win polls against groups that sold a lot more albums.  Anybody think "Breathless" was their best, or close to their best, good, or mediocre but still better than Renaissance?  Vote and comment on!

Renaissance this time. Breathless wasn't one of my favourites from Camel.
A GREAT YEAR FOR PROG!!!

I think these are both underrated (although you're doing your bit for Renaissance obviously).
It's a close call but I go with Breathless here which I love to pieces. (Breathless is something like Camel's Camera Camera, somewhat pop oriented but very creative with many surprises and highlights; I know the latter is not a crowd favourite here either.)

Camel are my favourite band, so for me to vote against them would not be a common occurrence.

But Breathless is not one of their best, so ASFAS gets my vote.

yeah seeing them live recently has revitalized my interest, and they included 2 songs from ASFAS on the tour based on fan requests.  I am in pretty much total agreement with everything you said, other than voting for ASFAS.  I enjoy Breathless more now than when it was current.  To me Side 1 is brilliantly executed, and side 2 isn't bad either.

Tough call, don't really care for either.

As is often the case with this poll series, I enjoy both albums.  Renaissance wins this one again.

I think, more than telling us about where Renaissance stands, this series might help reinforce the Genesis/Camel worship on PA.  SFAS beats Tormato handily but loses out to Breathless/ATTWT....strange. Now Heavy Horses is at least an album that I know even guys who are not huge fans of Tull enjoy (though not me).

Both underrated albums.

Vote goes to Breathless as it not only contains my favourite track of theirs, Echoes, but i also enjoy the jazz-tinged The Sleeper and the decent melodic pop of the title track. Throw in the poignant closing track of Rainbow's End and a humouress track that I actually enjoy, Down on the Farm, and you have a really strong album (IMHO)

Could easily live without You Make Me Smile though...

Even if i'm a Camel hard fan, Breathless is not one of my favorite albums. Vote for Renaissance.

For me this is a tie, since both albums have their good moments, even though are not to par with their predecessors, so frankly, after giving it a thought, I cannot choose one over the other.

Tormato deserved the defeat in that poll, it's so patchy and uninspired IMO. I listen to ASfAS without skipping a song, I can't stand more than half of Tormato.

Sure, but I just can't see this huge gap between Tormato and ATTWT.   SFAS is quite comfortably rated higher than all these three albums - Tormato, ATTWT and Breathless - on the website.  It's a forum phenomenon.

I don't mean to repeat a few previous posts but Breathless is not my favorite Camel album either.
I still voted for it because I never really got into Renaissance.
