^ Seriously?.......both Who's Next and Led Zep 4 completely blow away anything Purple ever did...and if you give me a few minutes I can probably  think of some more.

Silly Wu! That's because Deep Purple has been crowned (or crown-ed if you're feeling Shakespearean) with the laurels of secret pseudo-semi-progdom. Not fully prog, mind, but a few of their songs seem indicative - on a limited basis and completely conjecturally - of a proggishness that The Who and Led Zeppelin completely lacked. Wink

Well...the term classic  rock came up so I responded accordingly.

Look at Yourself, my first an still favorite Heavy Prog album.

July Morning is a masterpiece and Tears in my Eyes is simply breathtaking.

I actually love DP (and also The Who, Led Zep and lots of other bands) independently from their being "proggy" (that word again!) or not. I was into hard rock and classic metal before I got into prog, and don't need any associations with prog in order to enjoy a band. If others do, their loss.

Led Zeppelin completley lacked progginess? So what about "No Quarter" and "Achilles last Stand", at the very least this two songs...

Exactly, though I do prefer Houses of the Holy  over Led Zep4.

Zep did have some 'progginess' in some of their songs....but Micky says we can't say 'proggy' anymore.

I think DEEP PURPLE IN ROCK was the first album I considered 'the best' in my life. It was so awesome I couldn't grasp it. Really earth-shattering and album of the year probably. It says A LOT since every year between 1968-1975 had loads of good stuff.
In Rock - 100/100
Look at Yourself - 88/100 or so.

Look At Yourself. It is just better songwriting-wise. The pinnacles, Child In Time vs. July Morning maybe on par, but otherwise Look At Yourself is packed with jewels like trance-inducing Look At Yourself and Shadows Of Grief, which, I think, cannot be matched by In Rock's exercises in heaviness.
