What I mean is
Have those sweet melodic guitar solos Those cheesy keyboards that sound really outdated Really pretentious lyrics Has under 200 ratings total Oh and cool album covers I already know of Marillion, IQ, Pallas, Solstice, and... I guess that neo prog band Steven Wilson was in.

Melodic guitar solos? You need Pendragon.

Indeed he was! 1983, sixteen years old. Quality is rather poor though. Also has another tape released in 1985 I haven't heard. Also, as for the other responses. I've heard Pendragon but they have two albums released in the 80s with the prime material being in the 90s and sorta missing the mark for what I'm looking for. Hell, this demo tape is a really good example of what I'm talking about even. Twelfth Night is one I've been meaning to check out for the longest time. I'm aware this kind of prog isn't really anything to preach about, but I find it a guilty pleasure.

^..Thanks for posting that on Karma...I was not aware of his early work with them. It's not all that bad imo.
I do like IQ and a few other neo prog bands......the only one not mentioned that I know of his Arena. You might try their early albums for that 'cheesy sound' or ck out the web page here for neo. Edited by dr wu23 - December 23 2015 at 13:41 |

First of all, nice to know you're not the only weirdo who's into this borderline-pop ugly 80s Neo. I don't mean primes like Marillion or IQ, I'm talking Comedy of Errors, Winter, Aragon, Abel Ganz and early It Bites here!
Also much better and less poppy bands (but still bearing this catchiness to them) are Shadowland, Collage, Red Sand, Clepsydra, Quidam, Mindgames, The Watch, La Tupile Noire, Janison Edge, Credo, Fyreworks, etc. Enjoy! |

LOL! I tried my damnedest to get these guys in here: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=99672. The post includes another YouTube version of 'The Joke's On You' without side A track 2,'Tigers In The Rain', but which includes the whole of side A of 'The Last Man To Laugh'. And here is another slightly longer version of that tube which the same guy uploaded just the day before I made my post: |

First time i see this way of seeing things... So you want some badly sounding music but with cool covers and melodic guitar solos. Flame Dream comes to mind. Edited by rdtprog - December 25 2015 at 04:54 |

Very smart topic. I mention you to asked musical elements again:
1 - sweet melodic guitar solos
2 - cheesy keyboards that sound really outdated
3 - Really pretentious lyrics
4 - Has under 200 ratings total
5 - Oh and cool album covers (Cover?!)
I think fudgenuts64 have different mean. I don't write any of great bands name in this thread because I like them . If you "Hate" any of Neo Prog bands or albums , You can write a post in this thread about that!
Now one question : Why Neo Prog? Do you mean : All of these awful specifics "Only" find in Neo Prog sub gen? I think you can find them in Xover easier than Neo Prog.
This thread is not about music IMO. I guess you try to attack to Steven Wilson. Your answer to Dellinger question show it clearly " 1983, sixteen years old. Quality is rather poor though. Also has another tape released in 1985 I haven't heard." What?!!! S.W 16 years old?!!! Quality of tape in 1983?!!! Come on. This isn't good way to attack S.W.

Wilson was also in Pop/Rock band Blazing Apostles (aka Pride of Passion) that at different times
also featured Brian Jelliman and Diz Minitt from Marillion. (Minitt co wrote this song) P.S. Wilson is on the far left, the pale guy wearing a barret Edited by TheH - December 25 2015 at 09:41 |
