Those are two good examples. Both great and I'm almost certain neither has ever seen a proper CD release.

Motorpsycho's Child of the Future is not available on CD, but from what I've heard of it it's not exactly an essential MP release. Please correct me if I'm wrong, vinyl collectors.

Beyond The Planets, well it did have a CD release but its very difficult to find. When one occasionally shows up on ebay it goes for silly money.

Beltane Fire's album A Different Breed

And I would like to see the original LPs of hitch Hiker's Guide to the galaxy get CD releases, The ones that were rerecorded for commercial release, not the broadcast version

I recently got into vinyl and immediately wanted to get some recommendations for great albums that were released on vinyl but never on CD or are difficult to find on CD. I tried searching on the forum but didn't manage to find any similar topics (most probably because I'm terrible at forum searching).

Some examples that I can think of are:

1. Rick Wakeman - No Earthly Connection
2. Barclay James Harvest - Live (1974)
3. Grobschnitt - Solar Music Live

Feel free to add other suggestions!

"Solar Music Live" was released on CD.

French avant band Super Freego released their sole album in 1982, to my knowledge it was never released on CD.

Also the Japanese band Stubbs never reissued their excellent album The Prime Moving Lumps. This is superb canterbury that needs to be reissued.

that reminds me that the vinyl and CD versions of Robert Fripp's first solo album are different. "Disengage", for example, is both times sung by Peter Hammill, but on the vinyl version his singing is much more aggressive (though it definitely is aggressive on the CD version as well), which is why I like the vinyl better

Hammill's take on the original vinyl Disengage is my fave PH vocal of all time...along with the live Ship of Fools from Vital.  I remember buying the CD and being bitterly disappointed about that...luckily my vinyl of Exposure was autographed by the man himself and is staying put Wink

Unfortunately I don't think there ever will be one for the Michel Madore album. There was a Quebec thread on Progressive Ears a while ago when this came up and one of the Prog Quebec guys said they'd obtained the master tapes on it and they were hopelessly degraded. So the only way would be a needle drop, and they wouldn't do that because experience told them it wouldn't sell.  Can't see anyone else doing it.

The League of Gentleman, For Those About to Die and Solar were all released on CD.....don't know if they became available in the US, but I have each of the these albums on CD on European (Dutch) record labels.

Starsailor was released on CD and a second issue was planned but scraped at the last moment due to the heir's refusal to allow it.  I guess they're planning a super re-released full of bonus stuff for a big ticket price (at least I hope so - not the exorbitant price tag but the availability).

Could you provide the name is the record label. I have never seen a reference to The League of Gentleman on CD. Neither do discogs know about it.

This exists on CD http://www.discogs.com/Robert-Fripp-League-Of-Gentlemen-God-Save-The-King/master/9913 looking similar but a total diffrent album.

I am pretty sure it must be a Bootleg

This version :

Got the original Vinyl versions + a lot of take III versions not released before, especially Hall's take of more songs. Pretty nice for the Fripp collector.

This is only (vaguely) prog-related but is the obvious one; Neil Young's 'Time Fades away' which he resolutely refused to release on cd (or re-release at all) due to his long-standing dissatisfaction with the recordings.. I think it was re-issued recently either on vinyl or cd or both.. I think in the last 5-10 years just about everything, however obscure, has been issued/ re-issued on cd and perhaps only someone as 'strong-minded/ single minded'/ financially positioned as Neil Young could actually put their foot down and say 'no- its not what I want'.

Wow, the only discernible online reference to them is your post here, and a listing at Spirit of Metal -

I'm not sure if it's this way on the CD release, but the download version of Jethro Tull's "Living in the Past" is substantially different from the original vinyl. Some of the singles from other albums are missing, like Teacher and Hymn 43.

Yep, you're correct and Bouree is also missing.

The only CDs with all tracks from both the original vinyls (UK and US) is the 24K Gold 2CD Mobile Fidelity release, which these days goes for ridiculous prices on eBay. The cheapest on sale at the moment is US $190 the most expensive in US$400. No thanks.
