Interesting. I like and admire Supper's Ready but I love Echoes. I go for sinking in, meditative relaxedness and atmosphere against theatrical intellectual complexity here.

Once again, I love both, but I have to give it to Pink Floyd once again.

Echoes is a nice psychedelic pop song, but while Supper's Ready is so long because the rich musical content would not allow it to be shorter, Echoes is so long just because it was stretched by adding lengthy solos and meandering noises. It would be better as a 5 minutes song.
| I do agree that the funky section, and the ambient section after it, seem like a stretch of time, and at first I just wished they weren't part of the song (or at least were shorter)... but I have heard the song and loved it for so long now that I actually enjoy those parts now, as a part of the whole. Everything else is just flawless, and I wouldn't cut out any solo from it.

Pink Floyd were the greatest band of all, but Supper's Ready is just perfection

Love both and yet it's not even close for me. Echoes is just so transcendental. I never get that with either Yes or Genesis, arguably the archetypal symph prog rock bands of the 70s (or also ELP for that matter). Maybe if I were actually English I would relate to Supper's Ready more. Not that I don't but it is music that is very English while Floyd has a certain 'global' appeal especially this track, possibly their very best. Whalesong and submarine pings - these are sounds anybody on the planet can identify with.

Both 11/10, but Echoes is Floyd at its best.

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.
