Interesting list. Going with the Mixtus Orbis one. Other favourites are Can, Univers Zero, Tangerine Dream and Eskaton.

Tool is my favorite from these, although many great bands to choose from.

I'm actually rather surprised with some of these representatives. I haven't followed the competition or methodology, so that's probably why. Would have expected Magma to come top in Zeuhl, and especially would not have expected Steve Hillage to do as well against the giants bands of the Canterbury scene such as Caravan, Soft Machine, and Gong. Caravan is super popular.
Never mind, I'm sure if I search past topics I will get it.

Still, I'm curious too about how this list came about. I'd be grateful if anyone could explain (I'm too lazy to look for it so you may say I don't deserve to know better.) Can for me, by the way, followed by Swans, Camel, UZ, TD.

Lots of faves on this list - I am particularly enamoured with Clivage's Mixtus Orbis, which I've been spinning a lot lately. The debut Regina Astris is also very good. Can is another I'd gladly vote for, but today I'm going with Tangerine Dream. Atem, Alpha Centauri, Force Majeure, Phaedra, Rubycon, Ricochet and the Bootleg Box set seal the deal.

Strawbs, Wishbone Ash, Riverside, Marillion, Heep, Opeth and Steve Hackett are all brilliant.
But Camel are, as Tina Turner said, "Simply the Best".

To answer your question Lewian. In the past I made a poll for each sub genre, choosing only 5 bands from each sub genre. I then picked the highest voted band from each sub genre and put them all on this poll. To answer your question Logan. I would usually pick a little more obscure bands for the voting so the results wouldn't be so predictable, and as it seems, I made a mistake by putting Camel in one of the polls.
