Topic: Julia Holter Posted: February 13 2016 at 00:22 |
Is there anybody out there that enjoys her music? I found her third solo effort Loud City Song to be quite enjoyable (perhaps third since she has some other, early stuff, according to RateYourMusic). I'm not a fan of her most recent work, Have You In My Wilderness, but I have my reasons.
Not only does she have a sweet and lovely persona, but she is also a very talented writer in the realm of ... err ... what do you call it? Avant-garde pop? Art pop?
Penny for your thoughts?

Have You In My Wilderness is a real good, 8/10 album. That's all I've heard so far. I'd just call it chamber pop, I'm not sure how avant-garde I can say it is. She writes some great melodies and songs, the arrangement/production on the album is great, and I f**king love her voice.

^ I guess I'll just have to keep trying that album.

I like both Loud City Song and Have You In My Wilderness. I've not heard her first two, though.

^ Well, they are available on Spotify. However, as far as I'm concerned, they are nowhere nearly as good as her last two albums.

I like what little I've heard of Ekstasis. But it doesn't have as a strong identity as her new material. I do feel like her best material is probably yet to come, though.

It appears that lately her lyrico-thematical aspect has been more focused on disappointment with the opposite sex:
Do men's hearts grow old, Lullaby? |
I wonder how a 30+ -year-old woman makes things work with a man.
