hmmm... 5 ehh

too late for the best of the lot

Duane Allman. Oh what he could have done given more than 2 years

of the still living

Jeff Beck no doubt tops the list... guitarists 100 years from now will still be amazed with his depth and quality.

Steve Howe no doubt

Billy Gibbons -all is forgiven for the MTV years. Conescours still remember what a great guitarist you were

and last.. hmmm

Reine Fiske.  Man lust to that degree must be presevered for all humanity to experience

There's room in the lifeboat for everyone but Steve Howe boards first just to be on the safe side.

Don't know much about technical virtuosity but I do know what I like:

Jerry Gracia
Grant Green
Phil Miller
Sonny Sharrock
Bert Jansch

....and Hackett!  ....and Zappa!  .....man, twenty-five is tough - just five is impossible....it changes with the wind.

And though I dig Duane, I always thought that Dickie Betts added more the to Allman's trademark sound.
And though Howe is beyond brilliant, I always dug the jazzy approach of Peter Banks a bit more.
And though Hendrix, Page and Clapton get the ink, its Jeff Beck that ends up on the turntable much more often.

I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....
