The correct answer is the "USA" version of Part 2.

Love pt 1 but pt 2 got my vote...especially if we're talking about the version on USA or the other '73/'74 live versions which are just so much more powerful than the studio version.

I need to listen to some of those live versions again... as far as I remember I liked the studio version better mainly because this is perhaps the song in which the duo of Bruford and Muir works the absolute best genious.

The studio version is very cool too but in a different way for me.  There's more delicate interplay between BB and Muir (as you mentioned) and Wetton's bass (which is very clean and smooth).  Even Fripp & Cross are playing in quite a restrained fashion...seems like everyone is really paying attention to each other and purposely not jumping on top but playing as a team.  The USA and other live versions are just totally everyone turned up to 11 and bashing each other for instrumental supremacy like a sonic war.  Wetton's fuzz bass is just plain nasty and RF is playing in the heavy metal language that lead to the heaviness of Red.

The studio version is like a swirling summer breeze where the live versions are like a stage 4 hurricane Wink

I'd like you to show this song to any random friend that doesn't know much prog and thell him this is a restrained song that is being played safe...

Don't ask me to do that. It sickens me.

Part 1 I guess, I don't really like the Larks Tongues album very much. Then again, I don't really like King Crimson in general apart from the 2000's stuff.

Part 2 - but I also like the sprawling sound of Part 1 and its echoes of Vaughan Williams. Part 3 and 4 are lesser works.

Part two by a hair. Part one is great although I could do without the coda thing.
