GENESIS ANNOUNCE NEW "THE BOOK OF GENESIS" BOX SET & REFORMATION

Genesis announced today that the will be releasing a new compilation box-set, as well as the announcement that they are "making plans" to record a new album in the near future.

Don't expect Phil Collins or Peter Gabriel on the new record however. Tony Banks had this to say:

"A new Genesis album is in fact coming, yes. As of right now though, only Mike (Rutherford) and myself are locked in; I've been talking to Phil about the idea for the past couple years, but unfortunately he has family obligations and can't track drums due to his back issues...and Gabriel has a good amount of his schedule locked in for the next century [laughs]."

However, Banks briefly mentioned the Australian hit-maker that might take Collin's place both behind the mic and kit.

"About three months ago, I called Gotye about the idea of joining Genesis as our new singer and drummer and he immediately said yes. Mike's also been looking for a relatively fresher face to share guitar duties with, and we agreed on choosing John Mitchell (Arena, Frost*, It Bites) for the position.

This will be a Genesis album for a new century, one that I think will both please our fans and make many new ones."

The new album is slated to be completed by summer 2017. The Book Of Genesis compilation box, which contains nine disks; the first three disks including the best of their studio career remastered from the original studio tapes by Barry Diament, a two-disk live collection, and a four-disk anthology of members' solo work, will be released September 30th.

Personally, I could already tell it was a joke from the title, however, on a serious note, one can dream about something like that lol.

OK, even I'm not so lost upon the pop world.

It was a nice enough song... even though not nice enough that I would want to have it. I know just about nothing more from the guy, though.

My first thought was oh no not another f***ing compilation/box set...

Glad it's an April fools! No Gabriel and/or Collins = no Genesis, IMO.

Quite like Gottye though.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Hackett is overlooked by Banks even in jest....to me, no Hackett, no Genesis.  Somebody get on a phone to Steve and give him an over-the-phone pat on the back.  Sheeesh.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

Actually, this is not entirely an aprils fool. There is a 'Book of Genesis' boxset circulating in the net with some extraordinary rarities. Many of the tracks were realeased only in this boxset. I found it for download on Soulseek. It is a must have for Genesis fans.

Even if it hadn't been a hoax: if Jon Anderson's not on it, it ain't Genesis.

You dream of two-fifths of Genesis reforming? It would take a fifth for me to come aboard on that one.

Genesis are so tight on 'quality control', I bet they are sitting on some great live tapes but won't release them.  It looks like we have to be content with Archives.  I can't see them reforming, and they probably shouldn't.
