Love the 1st 5 (when Michael was mumbling back in the mix rather than being out front) and the B-side comp Dead Letter Office, but Chronic Town is my fave

I've always really enjoyed Green, but I can't say I'm too familiar with much of the band's work. I should listen to them more as I have really enjoyed what I've heard.

Went with Reckoning. Considering the sort of productions and music styles utilized during the time of that album's release, it's aged really well. Great album. I like Automatic... too, especially "Find the River". Gorgeous.

Their early stuff was righteous - the big label brought on changes that drowned out what made them great.....those indecipherable vocals and those muddy guitars mixed with Byrdsy acoustic jangle. And the songs.....those early albums had them in spades but post-Document they were aiming at radio play and the songs and spirit of the band suffered.

Gotta say 'Reckoning'.
I was tempted to vote for 'Chronic Town' just because I remember very clearly the day I bought it back in 1982. I had never heard anything like them before and it didn't matter that the lyrics were gibberish and they couldn't really play their instruments. It was the same as punk or garage rock but much, much more pleasant and accessible. After that there were loads of imitation bands like Let's Active, Guadalcanal Diary, Pylon, Aztec Camera, etc. etc., but these guys were the first and most original.
Top 5:
1) Reckoning 2) Chronic Town 3) Murmur 4) Automatic for the People 5) Monster
