Close to the Edge = Supper's Ready >>>> Echoes
While I love Supper's Ready, I ended up voting for CTTE because it is a proper song, a cohesive piece. I don't think Echoes is bad, but it showcases the things I don't like about PF: excesive noodling and slow wailing sounds in order to extend and give artistic credibility to a fairly straightforward three-minute pop song. But this fault is what makes Floyd a great band for some. I'm pretty sure a lot of people got into prog because of them. They are THE transition band, and this is THE transition song that got a lot of people into hardcore prog epics, so that's a plus.

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

All 3 are great but my favourite is Echoes. Had the Yes selection been Gates of Delerium it would have been very very close.

Man, I honestly don't know. I guess I'd pick Supper's Ready, but CTTE and Echoes aren't far behind.

Lol---prog in general is for outcasts ....but get what you are saying.
There are acceptable prog bands for the masses like Floyd or Rush--- | I'd like to know what parts of Supper's Ready this good fellow found embarrassing. If one is Willow's Farm, get out of her already. No more delightful respite from the rest of the proceedings can be found. Supper's Ready is a gift of the gods, so savor it. | Supper's Ready is not my very favourite epic, nor the one I would choose from this, but it is still a song I love, and one I find perfect from beginning to end. Every moment, every transition is beautiful. Even Willow's Farm, which sounds as an attempt to be comic, is very enjoyable for me... one of the very few cases in which I actually enjoy one of this attempts at humor in prog/rock... and the reason for which I like better the studio version, because in later live versions they just didn't nail this part well enough.

Most prog is accessible imo. Supper is a good song but you'd think it was 10 times better from reports here lol

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

I voted for Echoes simply because I am tired of voting for the other two.

Now it's Supper | I never imagined that at some point you might have prefered CttE over Supper's Ready... even if it's not the case anymore.

Supper's Ready as it was a major uproar from what was at the time a small band on this side of the pond. Yes and 'Floyd were pretty well established when their "epics" came along.
