Basically, I'm trusting you guys!  Whatever you throw up on this thread, I WILL be listening to.  I've got about one hour before I get on the road, so if you guys have any last minute recommendations, now's the time!

Seriously appreciate it!  Thank you all! :D

Is this too far away from your tastes ?
Don't say "don't like it" before at least trying, if you haven't already, of course.
And Gene Loves Jezebel, I was forgetting to mention, another of my driving-trip favorites

I'll have to admit, I do not listen to pop.  Do you think you could give me a couple songs I'd enjoy so that I don't have to randomly pick a couple I may not like?  What are the gems?  You have to be careful trying new things.  If they're good, I don't wanna dismiss them because I chose a couple lousy songs.  Thanks for the rec!

Pick up The River (Springsteen) and Heavenly Bodies (Gene Loves Jezebel) both Rock (not Pop), and enjoy your ride singing-along some of the most catchy tunes around Big smile

You know it! :D  I'm gonna go check my oil and fill up my tank and then I'll check with you guys one last time to see if any more suggestions have been made before I head out on my journey.  Thanks again everyone.  I think I'll like it here.

Actually, I'm headed out now!  I'll report back on this thread when I've made it.  If I don't make it, someone make a proggy dirge in my honor.  Adios and thanks for the jams.

Thank you!  Where should I begin?

I'd say PFM themselves, Storia di un Minuto and Per un Amico, as well as Banco del Mutuo Soccorso's self-titled, Le Orme's Felona e Sorona, Il Balletto di Bronzo's Ys, Osanna's Palepoli, and Campo di Marte's self-titled.
I'd start with Cook. An excellent live album that really gives a good indication of the band. If you like what you hear, start listening to their all their studio stuff.
Thank you for supporting independently produced music

Hi,

Oh well ... 2 months later!

If you're serious, start the alphabet backwards, and you MUST have 30 minutes of music by an UNKNOWN band (to you) ... so you go R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z ... and that's 9 different bands and 4.5 hours. Oh wait ... Seattle to Vancouver ... that's 3 hours ... we need 6 hours of music! So, O, P,Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z ... and you can not "know" the band, or have any idea who they are.

Now, after that trip, you will likely become a born again Progressive Music person ... !!!

And NEVER EVER ask that question again!

Other than CAN, I think that HAWKWIND is the band I play the most on my car. Love going through "Hall of the Mountain Grill", then "Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music", then "Quarks, Strangeness and Charm", then "Space Bandits", then "Electric Tepee" and close it out with "It is the Business ... "

For CAN, it's "Tago Mago", "Ege Bamyasi", "Future Days" and "Soon Over Babbalooma".

Let's see ... after that CARAVAN, with "For Girls ... ", "Cunning Stunts", "Blind Dog ... " and closing with "Better By Far".

Other good car plays:

Duncan Brown (his last two albums)
Man with "Do you Like it Here... ", "Be Good to Yourself ... ", "Back into the Future" (two long cuts are awesome!!!)

Chicago with 1 (I'm a Man ... ), 2 (25 or 6 to 4), 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 in order is also a very nice listen. Must listen to them in their entirety, or you are cheating!

...of course the OP never said when his return journey was/will be so even though his 6-hour outward bound trip was on May 23 there is still the slim and remote likelihood that he hasn't driven back yet so be sure to keep those recommendations coming chaps on the off-chance that your suggestions are not firing into empty space.

"Oh well ... 2 months later!"

He can always start up on the next trip! I'm sure he will be ready by then, too! And this time not forget your own CD!
