some favorites and some albums I find interesting from 1978 other bands that released albums in 1978 (I thought of ) Brand X Renaissance (might have been an easy winner I think) APP Camel (some love Breathless, others hate it) Minotaurus (Eloy sounding band, not that known, but good) Jeff Wayne Trevor Rabin Carol of Harvest Eela Craig so pick a favorite and explain a bit |

I'm pretty sure the Gilgamesh one is good, although I don't have it, I just heard it many years ago, same too for the Gotic one. Gilmour's album is nice too.
The one I have listened to the most from this list is Jane's `Age of Madness', hardly one of their better albums, but still a fine rock/pop album with fleeting little spacey/proggy moments. Forgettable but enjoyable, it gets my vote this time! |

I only have Happy the Man and Cathedral of these. Happy the Man I've been listening to again recently because I really felt like it. Cathedral sound too much like Yes wannabes to me.

I used to be a fan of particular bands like Rush, Yes, and Deep Purple. Now I travel the Proglands, exploring a little bit of everything. I have become a Prog Voyager.

My idea was to make polls without the big/famous bands/albums, I tried... Hemisphere is great, one of my favorite from Rush.

Where's Modra Rijeka ?
None of these albums can keep par with Hemispheres or Modra Rijeka, but some of these are nevertheless good. I choose Watch just over David Gilmour's solo debut. |

It's between Gilmour, Cid and Ange. I went with the latter this time around, which btw also happens to be Steve Wilson's fave Ange album ( I prefer the debut and Cimitieres to it).

I love that Wilson is such a huge Prog fan. My top three on here are Jose Cid, Cathedral and Ange. All three have lots of mellotron. I do like Gilgamesh a ton but to me this is their weakest album. Went with Jose Cid only because it has no votes.

Tough to choose between...
Guet Apens (the last truly great Ange album) Crafty Hands (my fave HTM) 10,000 (just a cool Portuguese prog album) ...but I went with Cathedral. The mellotron drenched Stained Glass Stories is a fave...especially the closer The Search which reminds me of what the Fountain of Salmacis might have sounded like if Yes had recorded it instead of Genesis

A superb album by a band called Indexi, hailing from Bosnia of all places. The track Modra Rijeka II (one of the finest) can be listened here on PA.

I like your description of The Search they certainly had a strong YES flavour to their music.

Manfred Mann. Not a big fan of Gilmours first solo, I prefer About Face.

As much as I like Dave, Mesh, and Cath, Crafty Hands was just so good, and fairly innovative in '78 for an American group.

Of the choices I would say Gilgamesh, primarily featuring musical use of synthesizers at the expense of other instruments, jazzy drumming providing time with excessive use of hi hat. Although I'm not blown away by it, it's a very solid album. I only know some but not all of the others. The vocals on the Cathedral album make me cringe a bit.
