I had a bit of the jazz cabbage the other night and your name clicked LOL.

Selling England by The Pound in the car all week still. Cannot stop listening.

You got that one right away. Clap

And yeah Selling England by The Pound is their best album. I recommend putting in Invisible Touch next. Others will tell you not to lol, but trust me.

I'm not a huge Genesis fan.  Think I'll probably go for Selling England by the Pound.
I do like Foxtrot, especially Supper' s Ready.  But when I listen to side 1,  I find myself just waiting for Suppers Ready to begin.

From Trespass to Duke, Genesis was pretty much perfect.
But it's The Lamb. It will always be The Lamb.

Pretty close call between Selling England by the Pound and Foxtrot. The latter is way more unique, but SEbtP doesn't have a single weak song.

I think their overall best album is Selling England.. But glad to see the s/t(shapes) album getting some love. It was the first Genesis album I ever heard and I loved it then still love it now.

They have a whole lot of really good albums though lol.

My preference as well even though if pressed would say TotT since imo it doesn't contain any filler while SEBTP has "battle of epping forest" and "more fool me."

I definitely think it's Phil's best album from a vocal perspective and the best vocal Genesis album overall. The Duke Suite is a pure masterpiece that rivals even the great Supper's Ready. Even the (IMO) weakest song on the track, Please Don't Ask, I simply can't convince myself to skip it. Cul de Sac and Man of Our Times are very underrated tracks as well.

It's got a lot of that well layered prog goodness that Genesis had been known for, with a twist of pop sensibilities. The perfect middle ground between 70's prog-laden Genesis and the excellent pop age that would soon follow.

It beat out the Lamb by a hair. I think the compactness and driving vocals on Duke separate it from everything else. Lamb wins on concept, but it's main flaw derives from the 2nd side of the album where a few songs I find sometimes skipworthy. It's a bit unfair, but I have to nitpick to separate two albums that are this close.
All this hubbub about Duke and you don't even mention the album's true masterpiece, Heathaze. My, my.

My favourite is easily Selling England by the Pound.

Man oh man, how does this work........
For me - Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Selling England and Trick are all the full ‘5 Star’ . Then it goes 4.5. 4 and so on. Some days I say Cryme, some days I say Trick. Obviously, I suck.

Lamb grew on me in the last couple of years. It's an epic masterpiece for sure, I just feel SEBTP is a more concise, condensed effort. Kind of like CTtE and TFTO; I feel that's actually a great comparison.

Lamb Lies Down. It was also my first Genesis album. Not long time ago I wondered, if they had done movie from it like it had made from Tommy & the Wall, how they would have succeed?
