Hi everyone!

I am a volunteer with the Association for the Blind. I am doing some research for a gentleman that is a prog music fan. I would very much like to gather the names of some bands that he is perhaps not familiar with. The groups that he enjoys listening to are The Moody Blues, Genesis, Yes, Nektar, Camel and Druid. He listens to the same groups over and over..and he would love to discover some groups that he is not familiar with. I think that listening to some new and unfamiliar groups will be just what he needs!

I will take any and all recommendations..foreign groups..groups that put out only one or two albums..modern..the sky is the limit.

I am hoping to download a variety of songs and albums for his listening enjoyment.

Your question can have two possible approaches, I suppose.
The first one would be a list of bands that are similar to the ones you mentioned above. I can gladly give you some examples, although a number of people here won't necessarily agree. These lists can easily get out of hand, so I'll just limit my suggestions to two or three apiece.

The Moody Blues:
     Barclay James Harvest
     Procol Harum
   
Genesis:
     Citizen Cane
     Marillion (with Fish as vocalist)
     Pendragon

Yes:
     Druckfarben
     Yezda Urfa
     Glass Hammer (later albums)

Nektar:
     Beggar's Opera
     Frumpy

Camel:
     Manfred Mann's Earthband
     Supertramp
     Caravan

Druid: sorry, haven't heard anything by them

As for any new suggestions, that will be very difficult as this is a matter of taste and the choice is vast. I would suggest looking at the top rated albums on this site. Yuou'll find the categories at the top of the main page. The sub-genres appropriate judging by the artists mentioned in your list would most probably be: Symphonic Prog primarily, and possibly Neo-Prog.

If he's looking for Camel-like bands, some good albums include:

Sanhedrin - Ever After


Asia Minor - Between Flesh and Divine


Minotaurus - Fly Away


As well, Anglagard would be a good band to look into as they combine a lot of different influences, including many of the bands you have listed.

I can highly recommend Aussie bands Sebastian Hardie and Windchase - should be a winner !!

Get him into some Canterbury, for goodness sake. He'll enjoy the change from the other stuff that must be wearing thin if that's all he listens to over and over again. You know - Caravan, Hatfield & the North, Soft Machine, Egg, Gilgamesh, National Health and all the others I'm slighting by not mentioning them (and not necessarily in this order, either).
