As the topic says, please share some moments in songs that send a chill down your spine and leave a time-stamp of the exact moment, unless it's the entire song!

If anyone is curious of why this is thought to happen, check out this article

I'll start off with an essential piece of prog, Firth of Fifth, and the particular moment for me occurs at 6:50

another classic from Camel, Nimrodel/The Procession/The White Rider, specifically the ENTIRE The White Rider section starting at 7:00 when that bass line comes in!

There are a few moments for me in this VDGG track, mostly due to the chilling lyrics. Section  from 6:10-7:19 and the ending section from 11:30 till the end. "In the death of mere humans, life shall start!!"

I could go on and on (and I'll be sure to add some later), but I'll leave you with a moment from a current prog group, Bent Knee and song Leak Water. The build up begins at 2:59 and the moment occurs at 3:48 ... "The taut strings of my family tree". What a voice.

Great idea for a thread! I love sharing these kinds of things and seeing what strikes other people on a deep emotional level.

For prog songs:
Genesis - The Musical Box [9:39] "NOW!!!!" And Steve Hackett comes in an octave up

Yes - Heart of the Sunrise [5:44] I think this is one that a lot of people will agree with. You know the part: "Sharp. Dist-ance. Hooowww...."

Yes - The Endless Dream [11:50] Talk wasn't that popular, but I tear up every time Jon belts out "Dreeeaaammm"

Bubu - El Cortejo De Un Dia Amarillo [14:00] I get overcome by a wave of emotions when the acoustic guitar and vocals come in; so much so that I've actually gotten chills just playing this section in my head

For non-prog:

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Tuesday's Gone [3:56] I love it when the strings come in; absolutely gorgeous

Ted Nugent - Fred Bear [3:44] You probably wouldn't expect to see Ted Nugent in a beautiful music thread, but this song is so absolutely enchanting, and when it switches to major for the solo I get an absolute rush

Allman Brothers Band - Mountain Jam [22:19], [27:28], [29:26] This is probably the most powerful musical moment of all for me. The first chill is when the band steadies into the relaxed shuffle, it's so joyous. The next is when Duane starts his climactic slow solo. The whole solo is breathtaking, but the peak of the song is when he sustains that one final note and you can hear a lone whistle permeate from the crowd. In that split second, I'm taken back to Fillmore East on the early morning of March 14, 1971 (long before I was even born). Duane stands triumphantly, center stage, raising his pick to the sky, as the sun rises outside. I'm in the crowd, among many, caught up in the glory of the moment, breathless. Now THAT is what music is all about!

it doesn't literally have to happen physically to you, just feel free to share some moments that stand out to you, something where you might say "I love this little bit coming up"

1971 I was in high school and NOT a fan of John McLaughlin.  A friend invited me over to hear a new album..  On the way I asked who is it?  He said the new John McLaughlin album.  I stopped dead in my tracks and said seeya.  It was a dark dreary day but he convinced me to listen.  The first two and a half minutes of that album changed my music listening habits for the rest of my life and I'll be 62 in December this year.

Re Skynyrd's "Tuesdays Gone", I've always liked that one, and by the way, those aren't strings, thats a Mellotron, they use one on some other studio cuts too. Apparently thats producer Al Kooper playing the Mellotron, while their regular kybd guy (great piano player himself) is pounding on the piano keys.

There are so many moments to mention, I'll just go with the first one that comes to my mind.

Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn

Of course the whole thing is gorgeous but that moment in 6:08 is beyond beautiful...

1. This whole piece, but especially the screaming guitar solo..

2. The very opening of this piece.

3. This is probably the strongest. The first ten seconds especially.

4. This is also very strong. It often brings tears to my eyes.

5. The moment when the main theme comes in at the beggining.

6. This whole tune, but especially the solo.

7. The closing at about 6:45.

8. This whole piece.

9. And this one also. Wink

10. 9:13

Good call! As my avatar would suggest, Anabelas is my all time favourite album; it's one of those gifts that keeps on giving. I recommend it whenever I can.

Great selection, too. We really seem to share a lot of the same tastes, don't we? Though my personal choice from Saison would be Depuis L'Automne, right around 3:20 and again at 6:20

^ Yes, 6:20 for me as well but also on "Chanson Sans Paroles", the intro/ending and at 8 minutes or so (flute and Mellotron, what's not to love? Approve). I'll have to make a list later Smile

Could you guys please use hyperlinks, instead of tons of embedded Youtube videos? It's getting difficult to load this page.

The end of the first section of this Triumvirat suite, 3 minutes long, the section called "Dawning" which ends with some stirring solo piano, gives me a chill every time....

Too many to list, but recently I've been loving the new Chevelle album which has plenty of spine-chilling moments.
