Topic: Animals vs. The Wall Posted: July 27 2016 at 04:04 |
Which Roger Waters authored work do you prefer. The political rant of Animals or the critique on society of the Wall?

The bleakness of The Wall gets the nod.

As much as I like The Wall, my vote will always go with Animals over any other PF album. Love it.

I am not too fond of either, but if pressed I would go with "The Wall"

Animals, just about the only album Pink Floyd ever did with some energy in it.

Animals by a country mile...

He neither drank, smoked, nor rode a bicycle. Living frugally, saving his money, he died early, surrounded by greedy relatives. It was a great lesson to me -- John Barrymore

Chalk another one up for Animals. This could get brutal.

interesting opinion because to my ears "Animals" sounds as if all energy was drained out of Pink Floyd, which is why I have such a low opinion of it

That about sums it up for me, I can't really listen to much of The Wall.

I don't consider Animals to be a Roger Waters authored work, no matter what the writing credits say. HUGE contributions from Wright, Gilmour and even Mason all over the three main tracks on that album. I love Roger's lyrics and vocals on it too.

The Wall is great. But I love Animals more. Both amazing albums. Very different from each other. The Wall is very personal, introspective and emotional. Animals is very cold (in a good way), cynical but musically propulsive and quite epic.
I find I have to be in a certain mood to listen to The Wall. The emotions are pretty heavy on that album. On earlier Floyd albums Roger wrote and sang in a more emotionally detached way. He would express anger and cynicism but not vulnerability. On The Wall and The Final Cut he "tore the curtain down" and all the pain and loneliness came pouring out.

OMG... NO QUESTION! ANIMALS over WALL any day of the week!!! I think the Wall is one of the most overrated pieces of crap ever created. If it didn't have a movie (visual aspect) nobody would have cared. I think I'd enjoy Pink Floyd's catalog a lot more if the Wall wasn't it. Never saw the charm of The Wall at all. But other Pink Floyd works are timeless. The Wall is a miserable boring depressing drawn out exercise in self pity, indulgence and wallowing. Not a fun listen at all. Roger Waters whining and pissing and moaning. And the Bob Ezrin production equates to flooring the reverb and ripping the knob off. Never cared for the Wall.

I could never get into Animals. After the two gems of DSOTM and WYWH I was disappointed. The Wall has some great songs but also some dross but I would have to choose it above Animals.
