Don't worry about it, the first time I heard the album, I'm pretty sure I listened to Emily every day for the next month. It's perfectly healthy and natural...

Cheers on The Ascension as well. And I actually just got Swordfishtrombones at an antique shop for two bucks, is it any good?

Robert Ashley - Private Parts
Rake - Art Ensemble of Rake / The Tell-Tale Moog
F**k Buttons - Street Horrrsing

^ The Ascension is great. It reminded me of a more modern version of Neu! somehow. The kind of album I really like with tight rhythms and a clean repetitive melody playing over interspersed with experimental noise/ambient sections.

Swordfishtrombones is pretty similar to Rain Dogs and I like it better although the production is much inferior to that of Rain Dogs. Dirty rock n' roll with a light avant-garde approach. I see Tom Waits as a less daring Captain Beefheart but he goes all the way a handful times on this album. Also the influence is clear as he even attempts to imitate the trademark Beefheart shriek on a few occasions. There are other albums of similar kind that I prefer but it still gets the occasional spin.

Choices for tonight:

Yes – Relayer
Nektar – Remember the Future
If – If 4
Kraftwerk – Radio-Activity (Michael in `Actually really likes a Kraftwerk album beginning to end’ shock!)
Eroc – Eroc 1
Van der Graaf Generator – World Record (OK, so I discovered today that I’ve never heard this before…)
Soft Machine – Volume One
Soft Machine - Third

Soft Machine – Heavy Friends: Live BBC 1971 - Tymon, I wonder if you’ve heard this one before (most likely!), I found the CD on a local Melbourne Ebay listing and snapped it up, pretty damn good! Soft Machine at their splintering noisy best!

Yup! It's another great live document from my beloved Soft Machine era (it's either this or the era between the second and third albums that is my favorite). "Blind Badger" is a nice touch, in my opinion. I don't think I've heard it on any other Softs release. Fun little tune. Smile The version of "Neo-Caliban Grides" is also stellar.

By complete chance, my iPod's shuffle gave me three perfect albums back to back for a clear autumn Sunday soundtrack:

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy
Paul Simon - There Goes Rhymin' Simon
Harmonium - Si On Avait Besoin d'Une Cinquieme Saison

Sunny days, oh yeah... Cool
