The Ghosts of Pripyat - Steve Rothery
Crimes and Reasons - Steve Thorne
Fish Rising - Steve Hillage

Might end a night of marking with GTR - GTR - so I get two Steves for the price of one!

Its a bit cheesy but I'm a real sucker for 'Night train' on that little Stevie Winwood lp!!

Definitely a Steve Hillage Day! I'm Spinning FR for a second time, this time with the volume up sat right in the middle of the stereo image!! Far out Man!!

On the same wavelength today. I forgot how good Night Train was - a real groove. In fact the whole album is a lovely nostalgic 80s pick-me-up!
Fish Rising I haven't played for a while - I usually go to L. Wonderfully dreamy stuff! Pretending to be the hippy I never was (although I did borrow my mate's Afghan coat at the Reading Rock festival one hot summer!)

Sadly....I don't get much of a chance to listen to whole albums except on the weekends sometimes.
During the week with work, family ,grandkids, etc.....I never seem to get around to it.
Almost all of my listening happens in the car these days on the way to and from the office via cd's and the car stereo/cd player. But most of my music, even the obscure prog, is on cd's one way or the other so I can hear them in the car. For the vinyl that isn't.....then I do have to actually play the turntable.

I bought a new Denon (automatic return) table because my old Onkyo doesn't work correctly but I still haven't connected it yet...LOL.....the older I get the lazier I become.

One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Scary thought, been a lazy b*****d all my life..and to think it will get worse.

Most of my listening is on the home system during the week-end (Friday nights and Sundays), don't spend much time in the car but there's always something spining, of course. At work it's on the ipod mostly, i'm in charge only 1 day a week so happily can listen to pretty much everything i wan't while working.

Cross Vein - Gate of Fantasia: Japanese flower metal, with emphasis on "flower". The fast tracks are full of jubilant consonance overdrive filled with lush symphonics, and even the gothic-tinged numbers have this happy fun-house vibe. Julia's vocals are spot-on technically, but her chirpy tone could put off the grim-types.

The Cure - Pornography: The drums are looped, but man they sound Teutonic. Really bleak and oppressive, although I find the guitar melodies that occasionally kick in during "A Strange Day" rather neat and not too morbid. "The Figurehead" is total paranoia. It's a fairly repetitive album, but in a cool hypnotic sense, although "Siamese Twins" kinda drags a bit.

Voivod - Dimension Hatross: I love the production on this, as the guitars sound full and massive while resonating as "swirling" rather than "meaty". There's still plenty of speedy thrash metal to their sound here, but the bizarre guitar chords give this all-encompassing effect at times. The vocals often sound cool and detached, and occasionally possess a punk sneer.

Deep Purple - Fireball: "Anyone's Daughter" would be a nice breather of a ballad, but the lyrics are just too obnoxious. Even when I was young I thought, "I wish this thing had trippy lyrics instead." My old vinyl had "Strange Kind of Woman" instead of "Demon's Eye", neither being a pinnacle of lyrical prose either, but "Strange Kind of Woman" had that cool mellow part with the falsetto in the middle that worked for me.

The Grateful Dead - The Grateful Dead: Speaking of obnoxious lyrics, I can't imagine blasting "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" in the car with the windows down as being a wise decision. As a whole, I really like this album though, with lots of highly energetic numbers, with "New New Minglewood Blues" being a fav.
