Nothing recently, but saw George Clinton and Parliment-Funkadelic on their last tour yesterday! The gig was extremely long, but loads of fun, I really enjoyed it.

Had a bit of a wild evening/night yesterday. Here in Denmark we’ve been experiencing 25 degrees, sunshine and clear skies for over two months meaning when you finally get home from work, the apartment is a sauna...and well it doesn’t get dark enough for one to think ‘hey maybe I should turn in’. Nonono instead you put on the next album until you finally decide to look at the time and realize you need to be at work in 4 hours...

Edited by Barbu - July 03 2018 at 15:17 |

Yes - Relayer: I gotta wonder what was going on in their heads while recording "Sound Chaser". It's pretty much nuts. Almonds, pistachios, acorns, you name it. And I'm glad for that, because sometimes I'm in the mood for a little insanity from often otherwise stalwart progenitors of symphonic prog.
Vanessa Carlton - Be Not Nobody: You know, that cute little piano melody you always hear on tv or your grocery store that gets stuck in your head for ages? I had to hear the whole shebang. There's a bit of jazz in this to go along with the girly "I'm not taking this" voice. Carole King worship, at least an attempt at it. Michelle Branch - The Spirit Room: Another early 00's deal with a voice much like Vanessa Carlton. Less piano and more guitar though. I swear so many potential pop girls must be forced to sing this way. Some super catchy Lilith Faire type songs though, especially the first three numbers...holy hell. Archspire - Relentless Mutation: Not prog by definition, but it's so DAMN techy to such an extreme that it could almost get away with being prog just for being so over-the-top. It's ridiculous tech-death metal that's outlandish enough to be fun as hell despite all the perpetual w**k. Mika Nakashima - Music: Unlike her Love album which owned during the first 3 numbers, this one waits until track 4 until the real Mika comes out all jazzy, weird and smoldering. "Seven" has the catchiest "vocal riff" ever and I don't understand a word of it. Now THAT'S my Mika Nakashima. Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow: "You know I love you baby...yes I do!!!" Oh man at the cookout last Saturday we were all singing along to that number. I haven't been to a cookout party in a long time...we all got major trashed. I wished I was sober enough to use bug spray when it got dark...my legs look such a mess... The B-52's - The B-52's: You know what I dig about this album? The guitar tone. Listen to "Planet Claire" or it's followup tune "52 Girls". It's such a groovin' tone, not noisy but lots of balls. It's a fun album, but that rockabilly crank gives it an edge. Always a good time at parties ( unlike "Love Shack" which is my call to leave any given party).
