^ Oh, nice list! You got a copy of II? What did you think of it?
How's that Uriah Heep album? I keep telling myself I should explore their music more. I should also listen to Birth Control again. Yesterday: Heaven 17 - Penthouse & Pavement The Human League - Dare Jean-Michel Jarre - Zoolook (Maybe because I'm more into Synthpop now, I liked this one a bit more. It's weird and uneven but I'm sure no album sounds quite like it. A product of its time.) |

Oh yes, came across it about two days after we spoke about it (or rather I picked it up with my recent Krautrock haul)! I do quite like it, but I still think I prefer the first album a little bit more? Only on about the third listen at this point though. That particular Uriah Heep album is damn decent, probably would make a very good introduction to them actually, so keep an eye out for that one! To my ears it's much more interesting than both `Demons and Wizards' and `The Magician's Birthday', which are pretty straightforward. There's one long track where pretty much the entire second half is different kind of keyboards solos, it's hilarious! That particular Deep Purple one `Burn' is a bit trickier for me. It's very tight and polished and groovy, but I didn't realise when I picked it up (along with `Stormbringer', but haven't listened to it yet) that there were quite a few albums in between `In Rock' and that one. The change in sound is quite a bit of a shock at first, same too for the singing. Still, I like it for what it is... |

^ What I particularly like about II is the sequence of the songs that works really well. I think it never loses momentum for a second, even on Moby Dick. In that way I always compare it with Sabbath's Paranoid, which also has its drum solo on Rat Salad :P
I'm very curious now, I'll give it try next! Yeah, I know what you mean. The Coverdale-led albums are a bit more difficult to get into, considering the previous albums. I started appreciating them more when I treated them as from another band.

Yes - Close to the Edge: Uh-oh. Decided to play the classic after so long...and I wasn't feelin' it anymore. Too familiar maybe? It wasn't until "Siberian Khatru" that I got into it. Never thought that would become my favo on the album.
Mitski - Be The Cowboy: Durn straight. Sure as a cow-paddy in a pasture wagon. What I likeis how the tunes are so short and to the point. Lots of relationship jive, but at least the lyrics are way smarter than average concerning familiar territory. Diabolical Masquerade - :Nightwork - Symphonic black metal is a pretty dated genre; it peaked around 20 years ago or so, but theirs an avant garde twist to this album. It's aged better than your typical Emperor clone for sure. Husker Du - New Day Rising: Some great powerhouse songs, especially early on concerning each side of the vinyl. The last tune on side 1 and the last 3 on side 2 I tend to skip...filler material (and that cat song...ugh).

Had to scratch my head. I did play the late period Wigwam Some Several Moons album. It had the most awful cover ever. Jim was clearly writing good lyrics but the band produced a bit more middle of the road stuff (adult oriented rock), but then, they were in their 60s except the drummer. it has some highlights. Of their 2000s two albums, there were several good cuts in the previous one. Also Jim's last solo album was quite a bit better than this one.

^Actually there is only Jim & Mats from the original line-up. As far as I know Nikke has been with Wigwam after 1970 only in a one gig. Also I am thinking Some Several really isn´t their greatest albums, but I like it more than Titans Wheel. When Titans has really stadion rock atmosphere, Some Several has much more sixties Wigwam feeling. But also I am thinking Jim´s last solo is better and Jukka´s 2000> solos are even better!
