Topic: Steven Wilson or Porcupine Tree Posted: August 07 2016 at 10:56 |
I enjoy SW's solo works. When I listen to them they blow me away. Yet for some reason I still prefer PT (at least through Deadwing). What about you?

Oooh... I can't choose!
I love early PT (Signify, Sky Moves Sideways, Up The Downstair), but I also adore SW's Grace for Drowning and Insurgentes.

Guess Im the first to vote Wilson's solo work. Some of PT is amazing, but not all. I think Wilson made enough subtle improvements to his later work to make it better than what he did with PT.

Porcupine Tree's early psychedelic years seal the deal for me. I do enjoy his solo work immensely, but there is nothing there at the level of say Up the Downstair, Metanoia or The Sky Moves Sideways.

Porcupine Tree easily, don't like his solo work apart from Insurgents.

What Zargus said. I don't like them either, and second or third tier bands like Tool, Opeth, Mars Volta and the like are better in my book. Hell, I think DT's worst album is better than PT's best.

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

I don't know... I like solo SW better than what I know from the studio albums from PT... however I do love "Coma Divine"... and the "Warzawa" live album is not bad at all either. I guess in the end it comes to "The Raven" against "Coma Divine"... I will choose Steven Wilson, but not easily.

Now that's a difficult choice! I prefer later PT to early PT and the last two SW albums are phenomenal. Just because PT have released more material I'll go with them, but Wilson can definitely catch up in the near future if he continues to release so often.

I like both outputs, for very different reasons of course, so can't really choose.

The early PT albums were stellar but the body of works SW has produced solo are overall much better than the PT output, imho. Four absolutely superlative albums there (I'll skip over 4.5 ).

Ask me again in another 10 years. While the overall body of solo work is of a higher level than PT the latter has over twise the amount of material (and plently of it is enjoyable). I need at least another 2 solo albums for it to be somewhat comparable to PT and then I will make my desicion. Besides in interviews SW is planning on going in a more electronic direction again for album No5. If that becomes anything like Insurgentes was then I might revert to prefering PTagain.
