I wrote a review a few days ago, and I mentioned the change in vocals. The new vocals remind me of Brendan Perry from Dead Can Dance. I bought all three albums at one time, so I am completely new to he band. I find the new album to be more experimental. I listen to all three together and have no complaints. The style of music is right up my alley, so I look forward to the next one.

I looking to it from 2 P.O.Vs : 1- As a New stuff (apart of their previous releases) , 2- As Seven Impale's new album.
1- Its a pretty good album but its not my fave music. Too Noisy for my ears but I found many enjoyable (for me) parts in this album. 3/5 star IMO.

2- Not a good album from the band. I expected better stuff from them. IMO They choose Wrong path! BUT I don't know what they like! Perhaps they like this kind of music more.

I went back and listened to all three albums in succession to see what it was that frustrates me, and I think jonross hit the nail on the head. I love the soft, fragile vocals of the first two albums, and they often appear on this one. But when they do the operatic thing, especially on the first track... well, I don't enjoy that nearly as much. After a couple more listens I'm not quite as put off as I was at first, but it's still not as good. I love the tracks 2-4 and 8, but for me the album starts (track 1) and ends poorly (tracks 6, 7, 9). The atmospheric parts don't connect with me either.

Anyway, it's definitely a step down from the last one, but I suppose very few bands are able to maintain that level of quality throughout.

I prefer Areknames!!!
"Contrapasso" like  VDGG with Heavy and Noisy parts! without creativity IMO.

The change/experiments in vocal approach turned me off a bit at first but now 3 listens in it doesn't bother me anymore at all.
I think the album is quite fantastic and will be a contender for album of the year again for me.
Glad I sponsored them :-)

If that album was by a different band i would really like it. It's just not what I wanted Seven Impale
to go for.

I heard it once.   Liked it.  Will listen once more and if I still dig it I will buy it.

I enjoyed City of the Sun a lot. I had planned to give a listen to the new album, and I will, but I'm already disappointed by the reception here... Will give it a chance.

I've just had listen and yes, it's the vocals that kill it for me - nowhere near as good as on City Of The Sun. Certainly heavier than last time but lacking the musical tension created on the debut. Still a good album but I'd rate it more like 3.5 stars compared to 4.5 last time.

I'm diggin' it.  I have no problem with the vox, if anything my problem is with the production.  At times it is all so thick and muddy, but in a way, I dig that tooLOL

I just listened to the new album once, though I did notice it was heavier than the previous one. My first impression was not negative, but I will need more listens to be able to judge.

I'm really enjoying the new one, I like the mysterious, foggy vibe, reminds me of an Italian band called Areknames.

intrigued to check this out. Really liked the first one. Heavy is fine with me as long as they're still as inventive.

Still absorbing the stuff but can't say it's a big letdown. I was not expecting another 5-star album, what I like about this new one is that they did not copy themselves and experimented further.

Let's see some reviews (I will be posting mine at some point)

Have to agree. The heaviness isn't an issue for me...it's the streamlined/tamed/more normal music that is the problem. Shame, but hopefully just a dip in the road for them.

Gauging by their fist album, did you really expect them to release the exact same album twice in a row? I mean, I get your point, but maybe you were expecting the wrong thing from the wrong people. IDK, I didn't expected it to be this heavy, but it's pretty much fell into my expectations as to "I hope they do something different".

Maybe if you go check Borknagard, Moonsorrow, Beyond Creation, Shinning (post Blackjazz) or anything on the like; they would appease your want more easily. Wink Tongue

I, sadly agree. I've been trying really hard to love this album. I appreciate the musicality but it just doesn't hook me the way City of the Sun did. The complex jazzy licks wrapped me in on their previous record, and this one despite some nice moments is just too heavy for my tastes personally. I donated to their Kickstarter because I was so taken with City of the Sun, and I don't regret doing it because they're a talented bunch and I want their music to continue. I just don't think this album is going to get quite as many spins from me as City of the Sun will continue to.

They did quite the reinvention, going very heavy, but it's not one that's entirely paid off. Three stars sounds about right.
