Jean and I recently watched all six episodes of the first season of the Norwegian series "Magnus - Troll Hunter". Each episode was about 30 minutes long.

The series is like a cross between "Pink Panther" and "Stranger Things". Some of it felt as if it was made for kids, but there were a lot of murders and a scene in which a man was raped by two gnomes (not small men, the mystical creatures) which ended with the man having gnome semen on his face. A kind of Nordic Noir meets Harry Potter. Very weird but also very amusing. We are looking forward to the second season.

now finished. Very happy with how this went. Looks like a Season II might be in the offing although like a lot of things could be a long way off.

Enjoyed the first episode of Emergence and glad to see that the wonderful Alison Dolman has been given the perfect vehicle for her talent. The character she plays is a bit of a throwback to the police woman she played in the TV version of Fargo. If you liked that then watch this . It has a bit of sci-fi mystery thrown in for good measure with a little girl who could maybe be an alien (or a covert government experiment?!). Got me thinking. This is going to be fun Smile

The extravagant glam scene had never interested me, not a huge glitter rock fan either but I do enjoy early Roxy Music, Eno and Bowie (the music, attitude and energy mostly, the Ziggy concept & fashion bore me to tears). Nevertheless, this Velvet Goldmine is quite fascinating (and definitely amusing visually) with excellent acting all around (impressive McGregor), a compelling storyline and a torrent of good rock music. Very interesting.

The Sky One production Brassic is a lot of fun , watched an episode this morning. Features Jo Gilgun  (Preacher) and is co written by Danny Brocklehurst who has an impressive list of British TV hits including also being the co writer of the Netflix smash series The Stranger. This is very different to that though and is very crude but also very funny at times. Just the perfect thing for this bank holiday weekend!

I'm about 2 thirds of the way through the book Cloud Atlas and fully intend to re-watch the movie when I'm done. The book is very good too.

we will watch "Cloud Atlas" again this evening; it was an extremely complex movie. it had 6 different time levels (Pacific Islands 1849, Cambridge/Edinburgh 1936, San Francisco 1973, London 2012, New Seoul 2144 and Big Isle 106 winters after The Fall 2321). some of the characters appeared as reincarnations in all 6 of them, occasionally changing ethnos or sex but always played by the same actors, others in 5 or 4. sometimes they were very hard to recognize due to the make-up, but the names of the actors appeared with short clips of all characters they had played during the end-titles. I just love movies like this because they really challenge the viewer

like Friede I love this series. I especially like that there are a lot of very strong women in this series, not just the 2 main protagonists. and both main actresses are really attractive though they are certainly no youngsters anymore (Nina Kunzendorf is close to 50, Anke Engelke is in her 50s). I actually think Anke Engelke looks a lot like Jane Fonda

Jean and I just watched "Das Versprechen" ("The Promise"), the third TV-movie in the series "Tödliche Geheimnisse" ("Deadly Secrets") starring Anke Engelke (right) and Nina Kunzendorf (left). The series is about two investigative female journalists who also are a couple. The first movie of this series came out in 2016. This third part was about human trafficking in the construction industry. Like the first two movies it was excellent, with many twists and turns. The two actresses are among the very best in Germany. What we really like about this series is that the two being a couple is a minor factor in this series. They have their issues like any other couple, but these are not issues that are specific to a same-sex relationship. In an interview with the two they mentioned that this had been important for them right from the beginning of the series because a same-sex couple should be normal these days.

Just finished off The Man in the High Castle - Series 4 - a bit rushed due to the cancellation but a very satisfying ending! However, gave up on Mr Robot... Skipped to the end and realised I made the right choice! 😂
