What is the album of your choice?
I would pick Leftoverture slightly.

Kansas. Styx doesn't even belong on this site in any way, shape or form, IMHO. But much prefer Kansas' first few albums to Leftoverture

Not only are those two the best albums by the respective bands, they were also their big breakthroughs.  Interesting match up.  Love both albums, gave the vote to Kansas.

I never liked Styx, but there was a minute back in the 70s I liked Kansas. It could have been a week or maybe a month, however long it took for the radio to utterly and completely overplay Dust in the Wind and Carry on My Wayward Son. And then I never listened again.

Yes, The Grand Illusion is one of my favorite albums of that era, and Lefoverture is a classic on its own right, so is a hard choice, but I'll definitely go with Kansas, if only by an inch.

I like both bands and albums, however, I think Kansas are fairly superior in all of senses. Due this my vote is "Leftoverture" (even isn't my favorite album from this  band... " Point of Know Return" is my favorite )... but Styx is also a great band and "The Grand Illusion" is very good (but, just like in anterior case isn't my top Styx album, "Equinox" is my choice ) !

I like both bands but voted for Kansas.
My main attraction to Styx is the guitar work by Tommy Shaw and James Young.

I totally agree with you Progos. Both were their breakthrough albums. I was never into either band but I'll go with Styx because I really enjoyed their VH1 Behind The Music dramas. Tongue

I prefer Styx overall, but Leftoverture, in this case, is the album I listen to more from the 2. Kansas.
