So I was reading up on the recent news about amazon (marketplace?) selling counterfeit CDs on a few other rock sites.

Is that something us in prog circles should be worried about?

That's why I prefer digital (HiRes, BTW) - you get the sauce, only the sauce and nothing but the sauce (and above all, pay the greater share to the artist)

I use Flac file too but find the quality of sound produced is limited (Flac Files) to the ability of your computing device output which are usually noisy

I prefer CDs as I can proudly display them to 'no one cares'. And easily play them in the car. But the thought any might be fake bugs me.
I do occasionally buy from Google music store when the deal is irresistible

You're right, of course, it demands an adequate configuration of all your system, eventually a dedicated PC and certainly an exterior DAC linked to the Amp.

Nowadays we can obtain a good output from the computer via USB asynchronous link.

I wouldn't know a counterfeit CD any more than  I would a counterfeit Gucci purse... does it look good on my arm... will the sucker play in my player... all the same.  Ignorance is bliss...

It's not really recent: 3 or 4 years ago, Magma was already warned by some fans that Amazon was seilling counterfeit versions of their albums, and a fan of Flying Colour made a thread on PA to talk about his misadventure with Amazon.
So, maybe the problem isn't with the CD format, but with the choice of many people prefering Amazon to their local record stores or even to the musicians themselves (some of them sell their records at their concerts, did you know?)

LOL  don't know about yours man.. but that sure wouldn't work in my player..  thus... a located counterfeit CD! Thumbs Up

Seriously... I have no idea if I have or have not unwillingly bought one.  Let's say I've bought more from CD sellers that came with no CD in the case than getting CD's (with a case!) that were later determined to have been counterfeit.
