IMHO albums like "Tommy", "QUADROPHENIA", "Who's Next" have several progressive elements.Guess that it doesn't mean nothing if they never spawned 20-minute, side long epics, does it?Tell me what you think about it.
so...for me it's YES!(they should be listed on progarchives)
FURTHER EXPLANATION IN THE FIRST REPLY ON SPETEMBER 1st!!!!!!!!!

I think they should be included as well.  One concept album could be produced by a normal non-prog group but two concept albums, especially Quadrophenia which is a brilliant rock opera on par with many of the prog concept albums we love so much is no accident, they're prog.  Just listen to Won't Get Fooled Again and tell me it ain't prog.

So concept albums = prog?  I guess Tori Amos is next.

I did, it isn't that proggish I think.

I don't think the Who should be included, though they are a good band. There are lots of non-progartist that released concept-albums and though they're songs developed from easy proto-punksongs to somewhat more complex songs, I don't think they're prog enough to be listed here. But well, I though the same with Queen and we all know what happened.

THE WHO is not prog band, though they have done great music. You can add it, but I'm quite sure it will be deleted.

Peter Townsend=Genius writer.  Penned some great stuff. Never went beyond a certain line with it though. Proggiest moments were the 4th side of Quad with Dr Jimmy and Love Reign over me.  THe only other song that could qualify from that Album was the title song although John Entwhistle had some great bass lines in the opener, The Real Me.  Tommy's only prog moment was the Overature and Underture. Who's next Arp synth sound was interesting as was the violin solo at the end of Baba O' Riely.

Other than that no. If rock opera=Prog then we need to include Andrew Loydd Weber and Tim Rice.

I vote No.

Andrew Lloyd Webber uses a lot of odd signatures on J.C.S. though...but Sting does it too and would you call Sting prog?

As for the Who's Tommy, there are also some odd signatures on that one but not as much as a normal prog band does. And also a keynote that doesn't change for a long time (just listen to Underture) but so does Trevor Horn and could you call that music prog? Also there are some classical chord movements used by the Who but so does Abba, Brian Wilson and early Elvis Costello and would you call them prog?

No, this discussion will never end (sorry Trous) but in fact I haven't answered your question too...

Though I love The Who I can not agree with you on their inclusion on the site.  I do feel they had many progressive elements and were arty but this isn't enough in my opinion.  The Who perfectly symbolize the Classic Rock catagory for me.

OH FOR F'S  SAKES!!!!!!!! THE WHO????? PROG???????

And Queen still don't belong here either. Sure these bands have similarities but that's because of the rock part. The Who and Queen are not progressive bands. Good bands, but not prog.

That's all i gotta say.

Off- topic, but about Sting, what does anyone think of the Police?  I've always considered them more of an art rock band than new wave band/ punk band (which they were labeled when they came out).  Sting, while not the greatest, was still a good a bassplayer, Stewart Copeland is a highly talented up drummer (I rank him up there with guys like Collins and Bruford), and Andy Summers has a classical/ Jazz background, and his sound of guitar must've rubbbed off one way or another Adrian Belew (or Vice-versa), as is has alot of similarites to 80's KC.  Listen to the song "Contacts" for a good example.
