Hipgnosis. Too many important covers to ignore: DSotM, WYWH, Amimals and other Floyd covers, Peter Gabriel's first 3 album covers, Who's Next, Led Zep's Houses of the Holy, T. Rex Electric Warrior, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, etc.

Roger Dean for me by quite some distance, though that's not to discredit the awesome covers that Hipgnosis has put out.

Hipgnosis easily. Roger Dean's art, while good, gets pretty same-y. Hipgnosis has more variation in his works.

Of course I admire and love both, but when I try to choose my favourites from Hypgnosis I just can't find them. They impress me for their originality and all, but mostly that. On the other hand, I love the fantasy world created by Dean... specially with Yes. And Relayer is my favourite album cover of all, so Roger it is.

Roger Dean for me. I just love fantasy. Not to discredit Hipgnosis works, but some just don't make any sense to me : covers like Brand X - Product, and Wishbone Ash - New England, No Smoke Without Fire, are examples which I just don't 'get'. But overall, the Hipgnosis bunch are still pretty awesome.

Well we have all possible options unlike a Poll I would conjure up.
How can a decision not be made.
This reminds me of the polar opposite - the thread about the covers wtf were they thinking and all those horrendous, horrible, loathsome foul (even funny for all the wrong reasons) reprehensible symbols of marketing product that were designed to be attractive to the great unwashed.
Here it's got to be both.
Now being prog - are these covers high art? Yet?

It's a tie right now and I am fine with that. I voted "Both are equal", though they are not, for some reasons mentioned by Pastmaster and Dellinger.

Hipgnosis is cleverer and more "arty", but Dean captures the fantasy element wonderfully.
Choosing would be pointless: they are both brilliant.

I give it to Hipgnosis, mainly because: (1) I don't like Dean much; and (2) one of the partners in Hipgnosis was Pete "Sleazy" Christopherson of Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and Coil. Now that is hip.

Yeah, both are great... So, how can we decide? Well, there is a way... Contrarily to Hipgnosis, Roger Dean rarely deceives, and especially never shows men's bum, and this makes all the difference So, Roger Dean for me
