Topic: Peter Gabriel-era Genesis or Fish-era Marillion? Posted: January 04 2017 at 12:10 |
Your pick between these two notable musically similar British prog bands?
I like Marillion, but Genesis win for me by far.

Both are very good. Voted for Genesis as I'm a huge fan of theirs... Prefer Fish over Hogarth in Marillion. Hogarth does have a good voice but the latest album of theirs, thought he sounded strained!!

Although I love Marillion (Fish or Hogarth), I absolutely adore Genesis. Here is no contest for me: Genesis get my vote.

I envision next a thread comparing ELP to Triumvirat, if it hasn't been done before (it probably has). Just ludicrous.

No ELP/T'rat or Yes/Starcastle, please. It's time for Renaissance/Illusion!

Just from reading the title I knew this was going to be a Massacre. Even though I do love Fish era Marillion, and I have my complaints about Gabriel era Genesis, at their high points Genesis couldn't be touched.

I must say how much I'm surprised by the poll results
Its Marillion all the way for me. for one thing Genesis never had any of the aggression that Marillion have and didn't use the guitar anywhere near as much as Marillion do. Which I understand is why Steve Hackett left But then I've never bought the whole 'Genesis copyist' accusation that got thrown at Marillion

| Fish had slightly Gabriel-esque vocals at times, but equally rather Peter Hammill-esque too, but that's where the similarity ends for me. Never bought the idea that they were Genesis copyists. Nothing like them. That said, I think Genesis were a far superior band for my taste, as much as I liked Marillion at the time, I still listen to Genesis and have long stopped listening to Marillion.

Indeed, I lost interest as soon as Fish left Marillion whereas with Genesis it took until Duke following Gabriel's departure.

Not a fair poll lol, Genesis. Marillion has released better albums in the Hogarth era imo.
