Genesis of course. Though Marillion was quite good with Fish, never reached the level that Genesis set during the Gabriel era.

Putting their top 4 albums each albums in order
1) Fugazi 2) Selling England 3) Foxtrot 4) Misplaced Childhood 5) Nursery Cryme 6) Clutching at Straws 7) Script 8) Trespass
Which makes them equal for me.
As an aside, my stepson much prefers Marillion to the point that if I put Genesis on, he shouts "get that crap off and put some Marillion on".

I'm not a Marillion fan. I'm a big Genesis fan. So it was an easy choice for me.

I must say how much I'm surprised by the poll results
Its Marillion all the way for me. for one thing Genesis never had any of the aggression that Marillion have and didn't use the guitar anywhere near as much as Marillion do. Which I understand is why Steve Hackett left But then I've never bought the whole 'Genesis copyist' accusation that got thrown at Marillion

Fish had slightly Gabriel-esque vocals at times, but equally rather Peter Hammill-esque too, but that's where the similarity ends for me. Never bought the idea that they were Genesis copyists. Nothing like them.
That said, I think Genesis were a far superior band for my taste, as much as I liked Marillion at the time, I still listen to Genesis and have long stopped listening to Marillion. | I also don't really find such a big similarity between Marillion and Genesis... besides the fact that they are both prog... and indeed Fish's singing is very similar to Gabriel's (I guess not only his voice, but also some of the theatrical singing). I do have read that Fish actually was more influenced by Hamill, but I find the similarity in voice and aproach closer to Gabriel (and actually, it's Gabriel's and Fish's singing respectively the element I dislike most on both bands).

In fact, he's just threatened me with a painful death if I don't vote for Marillion. I wish to live a little longer.
And, on reflection, I agree with him - just

If anyone sounded like Peter Gabriel, it was the lead singer of Citizen Cain. Was that Stuart Bell?

What an absurd poll. I'm surprised Marillion managed 3 votes.

... and the fish laid down on the High Street... nah. Doesn't quite have the ring of the original.
Gabriel's Angels.
I assume there is already a poll / argument / heated debate over the two Marillions... or time for another?

It's unfair for Marillion, they should be paired with someone in their reach. If Genesis stopped at Nursery Cryme I'd still pick them (and I like Marillion, truly).

NOTE : Vote to Genesis not mean don't like Marillion!!! I die for Gabriel's Genesis and I love Marillion specially Fish era. This poll may make misunderstanding . IMO Genesis is a very better band (musically) . They are very better musicians and ... This is not about our tastes. This is not a "Subjective" case (IMO). These 2 bands are not in "Same Level" .
